I DO NOT CARE ABOUT MONEY! If your song is good and I like it I'll mix within whatever your budget is. I have a great ear and bounce quality mixes quickly, usually with no mix notes from the artist.

Interview with Jakeman
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A track called “Fuego” I co-wrote, co-produced and co-mixed (with Bainz). It came together exactly how we hoped! Emotional and spicy.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Some new 2nd Self material and a few mixing projects for indie artists.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not personally, but I’m always open to collaborating with other good people.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: All digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I’ll treat your music like it’s my own and make sure it sounds professional and honest.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Hearing the moment an artist lights up when their song finally sounds the way they imagined.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “How long will it take?” Usually about a day or less per track, depending on revisions and complexity.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing is only about making things louder. It’s really about helping the song connect.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you hoping people feel when they hear your song?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Find someone who listens well. Communication is just as important as technical skill.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Apollo Twin, MacBook, Neumann monitors, SM7B, and a midi synth.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started producing in college bands, then kept learning through projects with other artists. I’ve been at it for about 15 years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Simple, clean, and emotional. I like mixes that breathe.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: James Blake. He’s great at keeping things minimal while still making them feel huge.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Take breaks. Fresh ears save you hours of second guessing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Alternative, indie, hip-hop, and electronic. I enjoy blending organic and digital textures.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Understanding what a song needs, and just as importantly, what it doesn’t.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Clarity, balance, and feel. I want the song to hit emotionally and sound natural doing it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by listening carefully to the artist’s vision, then build the mix around the vocal and emotion of the track.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of a hybrid setup using Logic Pro, UAD Apollo interfaces, Neumann monitors, and a few trusted pieces of analog gear.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Rick Rubin, Nigel Godrich, and Finneas. All of them focus on serving the song above everything else.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and production. I help artists take their rough ideas and turn them into finished songs that sound cohesive and intentional.
