Interview with Charles Bestuer
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently recording vocals for several pop and rock projects, collaborating with artists and producers across Europe, and working on new original material for future releases.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both have their place. I love the warmth and character of analog, but digital gives me flexibility, precision, and speed, it’s all about using the right tools to serve the song
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to treat every song as if it were my own, delivering vocals that are emotional, powerful, and true to your vision. I’ll communicate clearly, meet deadlines, and make sure you’re genuinely happy with the result
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I genuinely love what I do, singing isn’t just my job, it’s my passion. The fact that I get to do what I love every day and call it work still feels like a dream.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most clients ask how I approach their song and how many takes I record. I explain that I always start by understanding the song’s emotion and direction, then record multiple takes to capture different nuances, so we can choose the one that truly connects
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Many people think singing is just about hitting the right notes, but it’s really about emotion, storytelling, and connection. A great vocal take isn’t only technical, it has to make people feel something
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about the song’s message, emotion, and target vibe. What do you want the listener to feel? I also ask for reference tracks, key, tempo, and if there’s a specific tone or phrasing they’d like me to bring to the performance.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Have a clear idea of the emotion and style you want the vocals to express. Share references or a short guide, and I’ll bring your vision to life with a performance that feels real, powerful, and perfectly suited to your song
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I’d take my Shure SM7dB, Rodecaster Pro II, Audio-Technica headphones, my laptop, and an electric guitar because even on a desert island, I’d still be writing, singing, and making noise until someone found me. 🎶🌴
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: With over a decade of experience, I’ve released albums, written and produced original music, and collaborated with established artists and producers across Europe and the U.S., both in the studio and on stage.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style blends pop and rock with emotional delivery and grit. I focus on connecting through feeling — powerful when needed, but always honest and expressive
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with any artist who’s passionate about their music. For me, it’s all about connecting creatively and bringing each song’s vision to life
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For me, simplicity is everything. The catchiest riffs and melodies are born when you stop overthinking and let the song breathe.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, rock, and hard rock
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is conveying real emotion through my voice, blending power, control, and authenticity to make every performance feel alive and connected to the listener.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotion, energy, and grit to every song, always aiming for authenticity. My goal is to make each track feel alive, to connect the listener with the story behind the music through a sincere and powerful vocal performance
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the client’s vision and musical direction. Once everything is clear, I record multiple takes of lead and backing vocals in my treated studio, focusing on emotion, precision, and tone. I keep communication open during the process and deliver high-quality, mix-ready vocals on time
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is fully soundproofed and equipped for high-quality vocal recording. I use a Shure SM7dB and a Shure Deluxe Blue through a Rodecaster Pro II, monitored on Audio-Technica headphones. I work with Melodyne, Antares Auto-Tune, and Headrush processing to achieve clean, expressive, and mix-ready vocals. Everything is set up to deliver professional sound and efficient workflow for remote collaborations
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists who bring real emotion and style to their music, like Elvis Presley and Justin Bieber. I also admire producers such as Benny Blanco and Josh Gudwin for their creativity, vocal production, and ability to make every song feel alive
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my clients hire me to record lead and backing vocals for pop and rock tracks, often combining powerful emotion with a clean, professional sound. I adapt my voice to each project’s style, provide tight harmonies, and deliver mix-ready files with clear communication throughout the process.
