Interview with Ron Rodgers

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I brought an idea to a well-known artist who immediately connected with it, and we ended up pulling in a hit writer who was just as excited to be part of it. Watching an idea I started grow into a real collaboration with artists I respect was a reminder of why I love this work.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I just wrapped up a full original album and am currently writing and pitching songs to artists and publishers. I’m always developing new material and looking for great voices and stories to write for.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I’m an analog soul living in a digital world. I love the imperfections, the feel, and the soul that analog brings, but I’m thankful for the tools that let me capture that vibe anywhere.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is simple, I’ll put my heart into your song like it’s my own. I’ll listen, stay honest, and make sure what we create together feels real, sounds great, and connects with the people who hear it.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love creating something that makes people feel. When a song connects and someone says, “That’s exactly how I feel,” that’s the best part of this job.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: The question I get the most is, “What do you need from me to start?” My answer is simple, just an idea. A title, a story, or even a feeling is enough. I take it from there and turn it into something that sounds real and ready to share.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: People think songwriting is just putting clever rhymes together, but it’s way more than that. It’s about truth, timing, and heart - finding the line that makes someone stop and feel like, “that’s me.”

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I usually start with a few simple questions - what’s the story you want to tell, what kind of emotion do you want it to carry, and who’s the song for? I also ask about their favorite artists or songs that match the sound they’re chasing.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Be clear about what you need: full song, hook, or lyrics - and open to creative input. My goal is to make sure you walk away with a song that fits you, not just one that sounds good. Communication is key to making something great.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: If I were stranded on a desert island, I’d take an acoustic guitar, plenty of pencils and paper, and a recorder - assuming the island’s got power. That’s all I need to write, play, and capture songs as they come.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I picked up guitar in the early ’90s, started writing my own songs in the 2000s, and hit the stage around 2005. In 2020, I took the leap and became a full-time singer-songwriter, turning life stories and experiences into songs that mean something.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: My songwriting style is authentic and versatile - emotional when it needs to be, energetic when it should be. I focus on storytelling, strong hooks, and melodies that fit naturally into country, rock, and crossover styles.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Bob Seger, hands down. He wrote the soundtrack to my life - honest, gritty, timeless songs that still hit hard today. But since he’s retired, I’d have to go with Jason Aldean - he’s got that same fire and authenticity that makes every performance feel real.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Don’t lose the magic. If something moves you in the moment, don’t smooth it out for flow - write around it. Those little imperfections are usually where the soul and emotion live.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I usually work in country and rock, but I love anywhere those worlds meet - from modern country anthems to rootsy, heartland-style songs that tell a story and feel real.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill is crafting lyrics that tell a story naturally - conversational, authentic, and built to draw the listener in from the first line.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I bring honesty, heart, and a storyteller’s perspective. Every song is built around truth and connection - whether it’s a high-energy anthem or something more reflective. I focus on writing lyrics and melodies that feel lived-in, real, and built to move people.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: Every song starts with a conversation about your idea, goal, and sound. From there, I build the lyric and melody around your story and style. I’ll send a rough draft for feedback, then deliver a clean guitar/vocal worktape after revisions so you end up with a song you’re proud of.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I write and record in Pro Tools from a dedicated songwriting studio built for creativity and clarity. My setup is simple but professional - quality mics, guitars, and plugins like Waves, SSL, and CLA MixHub - perfect for capturing clean, mix-ready guitar/vocal worktapes that highlight the song itself. Every track I deliver is clear, balanced, and ready to share with producers, artists, or publishers.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I’m inspired by timeless storytellers like Bob Seger, Waylon Jennings, and The Eagles, and by today’s artists who keep that spirit alive - Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, HARDY, and Koe Wetzel. I connect most with writers who make honesty sound fresh.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: Most of my clients hire me to write lyrics and melodies that bring their stories to life. I’m often creating full songs or key sections like hooks and choruses for country, rock, and crossover artists.
