Specialised in mixing live recordings. Over 20 years experience in live and studio.
I’m originally from Cyprus. Music has been my passion since I remember. I started as a musician playing drums in various local bands but soon I discovered I had an ability to understand sound on a more technical level. I moved in Milan, Italy in 2003 where I studied computer engineering at Politecnico di Milano, and sound engineering at SAE institute Milan. Soon I found myself working full time in live events as a mixing engineer and later as a system engineer as well. Since 2020 I have moved back to Cyprus where I continue my work in concerts and live events for 6 months and the other 6 months in Costa Rica where I focus more on mixing. I am specialised in recording and mixing live concerts that require a different approach (comparing to the controlled environment of the studio) due to the limits and advantages of a live execution.

Interview with Marios Antoniou
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both analog and digital have their pros and cons. I like to find and use the best of both worlds in each unique occasion.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love to facilitate the creation of a piece of music. Helping the artist materialize their art.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My headphones, laptop and a pair of quality speakers.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a musician in the late 90s and i focused more on the technical part of music production since 2007. I’ve worked mostly as a live mixing engineer and have mixed variety of genres from classical, jazz to electronic, rock/pop, metal and everything in between.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I try to “feel” what characteristics make each song or piece of music unique and use them to create the identity of the song
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Radiohead, because in my opinion it could be one of the most creative processes considering their vast experimentation with different styles of music
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Dynamics make the song feel alive but at the same time they need to be controlled
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Jazz and classical are my preference but honestly in terms of how frequently, there isn’t any particular genre that stands out
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Texture and colour
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work mostly in the box and occasionally visiting studios to use specific gear when I feel like something extra is needed
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Rick Rubin, Nigel Godrich
