Interview with Allen Troy

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked on an Afrobeats-RnB project with an artist named R.Bonslag.We had nothing but a PC and a $5 pair of headphones. The vocals were captured on my phone and we had to use a blanket for sound proofing. I was responsible for producing the beat, recording the vocals, mixing and eventually mastering the resulting project. The quality was surprisingly good for a project of that calibre.

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: How long will it take for you to finish the project? At least 4-5 days + an additional 2 days for revisions.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Burna Boy. He is very versatile when it comes to his beat selection and music style. On his album ''No Sign Of Weakness'' he features afrobeats, trap and even some Brazilian Phonk adjesent tracks. His versatility even shows through the artists he works with. Over the years he has worked with Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Sia, Stromae and even Shaboozey. I would like to work with him because I consider myself a versatile producer and I think it would be great to bounce around ideas with him.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: Melody loops for my own use.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: No.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Digital. Less expensive and more portable , you can work from anywhere with a power source.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: Your project will definitely reach its fullest potential quality-wise.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: I get to create. Just that. The power of creation.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: That you need a fancy setup and equipment to make an amazing project.

  19. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  20. A: Are you willing to change parts of your project or at least hear out my suggestions?

  21. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  22. A: Keep every file and sample you use well labeled. Label the tempo, the key and any other relevant information. This makes it easier on you when you work or when you collaborate with others.

  23. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  24. A: A solar power generation system...

  25. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  26. A: Originally I wanted to score for movies and series but after I worked with an artist on a project I grew to enjoy that connection and the creation process overall.I have been producing for 4 years and I enjoy seeing a project come together.
