Interview with Rodrigo Silva - RC
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do it with love
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: work across hip-hop, R&B, pop, and everything in between from boom bap to drill, trap, and experimental styles. While my personal preference leans toward R&B, I bring the same intentionality, emotion, and industry-level quality to every genre. My approach is shaped by both the excellence of urban Christian music and the depth of classic hip-hop culture, blending soul, purpose, and modern sound design into every track.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is the Brazilian spiritual horror film Remanescentes, set to be released by Sony Pictures in 2026. I created the full original soundtrack for the entire film, my first time composing a complete film score entirely on my own. This project allowed me to explore cinematic storytelling and create a dark, immersive atmosphere that serves the story. I love making soundtracks, and although I haven’t done it often, this experience was incredibly rewarding. I’m truly happy with the result and proud of the world of sound I was able to build for the film.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes I highly recommend my brother Ivan Berger soundbetter.com/profiles/63513-ivan-berger He’s one of the best vocal tuners on SoundBetter
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: It doesn’t matter if it’s analog or digital, what matters is the final result. My goal is always a track that sounds incredible and makes the client happy. I focus on achieving top-tier, industry-level quality, the kind of sound that could sit in the Top 10 on the Billboard charts, no matter the tools used.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I want you to smile the moment you hear your track and think, “I can’t believe this is my music!”
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything, I love music!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The questions I most often get are about how I work, my production style, turnaround time, and how involved the client will be. I explain that I focus on understanding the artist’s vision first, then create a fully realized track with industry-level quality. I guide clients through each step, provide clear communication, offer revisions, and make sure the final record reflects their identity while feeling polished and ready for release.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that what I do is just “making music.” In truth, it’s giving life to ideas that exist only as raw thoughts or simple sketches. I shape moods, sculpt spaces, and breathe soul into these fragments until they become something that moves, speaks, and lingers. Producing is less about technique and more about listening to the artist, to the moment, and to the hidden potential of the song itself.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When I work with a client, I ask questions to fully understand their vision and goals. I want to know what vibe or emotion they want to convey, any references or styles they love, the purpose of the song, and what feeling they want the listener to experience. I also ask about deadlines, preferred workflow, and any specific elements they want emphasized. These questions help me tailor the production so the final track perfectly matches their vision.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Believe me, good taste changes everything. Over the years, I’ve honed a refined ear through countless hours of listening and studying music. I’ve dissected sounds, styles, and textures so that I could one day sculpt them into my own art. At the end of the day, a keen ear and strong taste matter more than technique alone, they are what turn a track into something truly memorable.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: If I were on a desert island, I’d take just a laptop and a good pair of headphones. Everything I need to create, produce, and arrange hits is already there
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started exploring music production around 2005, and in 2014 I began studying it more deeply. I entered college in 2015, but paused my studies to live in the United States. When I returned to Brazil, I completed my degree in Music Production at Anhembi Morumbi in São Paulo, graduating in 2018. Although my formal education was completed in 2018, I had already been actively working with music production for years, the degree was simply an extra enhancement to a career that was already in motion. Today, in addition to music production itself, I also create original soundtracks for films, and I recently completed my first full movie score, composing all 38 tracks entirely on my own.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I’m a soulful dude and an R&B lover at heart, my music carries that soul and emotion.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I don’t have a specific artist in mind. My focus is working with people who honor God and have a purpose aligned with Him. If He sends artists who want to create music for His glory, I’m already grateful and fulfilled. That said, I admire the work of top industry artists and would be honored to collaborate with them one day, but my true mission is to make good music with good people who seek to honor God through their art.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: It’s the gift of taking a idea and giving it a soul.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring storytelling to a song. When I produce, I’m not just building a beat I’m building a world. I shape emotion, tension, space, and movement so the track feels like a story unfolding. I take the artist’s idea and turn it into something bigger: a record with identity, atmosphere, and the kind of energy that makes a song unforgettable. My goal is always the same create something that feels like art, hits like a hit, and stays true to the artist’s voice.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process starts with understanding the exact vibe the artist is aiming for. I’ve spent years deeply immersed in every corner of hip-hop culture, so when a client tells me what they want, I can instantly connect it to the right stylistic references. From there, I create something unique a new record that truly captures the feeling they’re looking for. I focus on delivering industry-level quality from the very beginning, with clean sound design, emotion, depth, and the kind of energy that can turn any track into a hit.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: ’m inspired by the producers who shaped my DNA in hip-hop, Just Blaze, J Dilla, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Havoc, Q-Tip, Large Professor, Lord Finesse, 9th Wonder, and of course, the entire Gang Starr foundation. On the West Coast side, I draw from Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, Warren G, Daz Dillinger, and Soopafly, that timeless G-funk energy is a big part of my sound. I’m also influenced by innovators like Timbaland, Pharrell, Kanye West, Hit-Boy, Metro Boomin, 40, Madlib, The Alchemist, Mike Dean, Scott Storch, and I really love that MMG cinematic vibe from Justice League. From the underground world, creators like Knxwledge, Apollo Brown, Black Milk, Beat Butcha, Cookin Soul, and Evidence continue to inspire me. All of them, and many more, influence the way I blend soul, grit, and modern polish in my production
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily create custom hip-hop and R&B productions from scratch, building full songs based on the artist’s vision, references, or rough ideas. Most clients come to me for industry-level beats with modern depth, emotion, clarity, and a polished, cohesive sonic identity.
