Interview with Neonwave
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work fully digital (in-the-box) because it allows maximum precision, fast turnaround and total recall for revisions. It’s the most efficient way to achieve a modern, clean and competitive sound.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise industry-level quality, fast turnaround and clear communication. My goal is a mix/master that sounds great on every system, with vocals upfront, clean and perfectly blended into the beat.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Clients most commonly ask: “How many revisions are included?” My answer: I include revisions to make sure you’re 100% happy with the sound — the goal is always to match your vision and deliver the best possible result.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that mixing/mastering is just making it louder. It’s really about balance, clarity, emotion and making the track translate on every system.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what specific sound you’re aiming for, and if you want any special effects in certain parts (hooks, adlibs, drops, etc.). I also ask for reference tracks to match your vision.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear about what you want. Send reference tracks, explain your vision, and tell me what’s most important to you (vocals, loudness, effects, etc.). The clearer the direction, the better the result.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working in music production and audio engineering for about 15 years, focusing on Hip-Hop vocal mixing and mastering.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mainly work on classic Hip-Hop and Boom Bap, and I also mix modern Rap and Trap. My focus is always clean vocals, strong low-end and a punchy sound.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is making vocals sit perfectly in a finished beat — clean, upfront and professional, without losing the emotion.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First, I discuss your vision and references to understand exactly what you want. Then I mix the song for balance, clarity and impact, followed by mastering for loudness and translation. After delivery, we do a final check together and I apply any revisions needed.
