My musical foundation is rooted in R&B, soul, funk and pop, shaped by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Brandy, Aaliyah, Amerie, Rihanna, Solange, Prince, Chic, Earth, Wind & Fire and James Brown.
I approach songwriting instinctively but with a musician’s ear for phrasing, rhythm, melody and vocal arrangement. I love memorable hooks, unusual melodic turns, riffs and runs, layered vocals and songs with strong rhythmic and melodic identities.
Lyrically, I’m drawn to imagery, emotional specificity and the things we struggle to say plainly. I can take a feeling, concept, voice note, melody or unfinished idea and develop it through lyrics, topline, hooks, melody and structure.
