Interview with Brian E. Watson
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I once worked the late great Angie Stone, It was my first time working with an artist of her caliber and I first witnessed the power and connection my music could bring out.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll give you my absolute best as a producer and beat maker
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love the emotion music brings out of people. I love how the right song could possibly change someone's whole mode.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do you have a vision for this record?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MPC 2000xL, Moog, Esoniq TS-10, Djembe, Fender Rhodes
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I always wanted to do music even as a kid playing the Djembe drum or in my high school marching band. My whole life basically.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: The roots and rhythm of West Africa, the 808 and hard drums of the dirty south, the soul of the midwest with little grit from NY
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Stevie Wonder and Kanye I would just observe and marvel at their Genius.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Sometimes less is better, don't over produce a record.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring and encyclopedia of music wisdom and insight. Every song is a piece of art and should be crafted with that in mind.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It really depends on how I'm feeling that day, music is all about emotions with me
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Its so many dope musicians and producers out there, right now I love everything D'Miles and Hit-Boy is doing with Hip hop and R&B. Kabza De Small and Chronical Deep are amazing as well with Amapiano and Afro House
