Interview with Parrish

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was an executive producer on the album "To Dry a Tear" by an artist named Khamari. I loved how the album came out and the process of making it. It was especially important to me because he has been a close friend for a very long time and helping him achieve what he wanted to accomplish was quite a personal victory for me.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: What I'm predominantly working on currently is actually a bit hush hush, but I'm working on a plethora of different artists. An artist named Girlfriend, Tkay Maidza, Ellie Goulding, and many more. All in various stages of the process.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I do not actually, sorry I'm new here.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. Analog is great, digital is great, no reason to use strictly one or the other.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To get whatever they want or hear in their head out in the world.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The creative process of making music.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can we get the record to sound a certain way. I tell them of course, it just may take some work.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That it's not hard work.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What are your influences? What is your vision and what would you like the project or song to sound like?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don't overthink it. If you like my discography, give me a shout! If not, no love lost.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: An acoustic guitar, a laptop, an interface, a microphone, and a cable!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been making music for 23 years and producing for 15.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I'd say my style ranges many different genres, but all falls under what you might call conventional pop structurally speaking.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Artists who have a vision for what they'd like to make.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Keep it simple!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Usually anything under the umbrella of pop music, but it's a wide range. I've done EDM, hip hop, country, r&b, and more!

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I'd say I'm multifaceted, but the first instrument I ever played was guitar, so technically I'd say that's my strongest skill but at this point I've been a record producer for the better part of 15 years.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring experience and a certain polish to a song along with my musicianship which I've honed over the last 15 years.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I try to work fast and let my instinct guide my process. Once I feel I've brought something I enjoy to a track I try to get some perspective on it by taking a bit of an ear break or getting feedback from the client and adjusting from there.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a production studio in I work out of with many guitars, basses, synths, high end condenser microphones and more. I predominantly use Ableton Live and Pro Tools as my digital audio work stations.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I was always a big fan of Timbaland, Pharrell, Max Martin, Benny Blanco, amongst many others.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mostly production or instrumentation including guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, synths, or drum programming.
