Fee Carrillo on SoundBetter

Experienced vocalist specializing in Gospel, R&B, with a passion for soulful vocals and rich harmonies.

I’m Felicia “Fee” Carrillo, a professional vocalist with about 15 years of experience singing and performing. My musical roots are in Gospel and worship, but I also love R&B and bringing a soulful, expressive sound to different styles of music.

I provide lead vocals, background vocals, and harmonies, and I especially enjoy creating vocal parts that add depth and emotion while supporting the artist’s vision. I believe a great vocal performance is about more than singing the right notes, it’s about connecting with the lyrics and making the listener feel something.

I also provide vocal lessons for children and teens up to age 17, helping young singers develop their confidence, technique, musicality, and love for singing.

Whether you need a lead vocalist, background vocals, harmonies, or someone to help develop a young singer’s voice, I’d love to collaborate with you and help bring your musical vision to life.

Interview with Fee Carrillo

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One project I’m especially proud of was working on a song written by one of my close friends. My role was to provide the background vocals and harmonies. I really enjoyed taking the song he had written and finding vocal parts that complemented his lead and added depth and emotion to the song. I’m proud of the project because it was a meaningful collaboration, and it reminded me how much I love using my voice to help bring someone else’s musical vision to life.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I’m open to new opportunities and collaborations. I’m excited to connect with artists who are looking for a vocalist for lead vocals, background vocals, or harmonies.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not currently

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I love the flexibility it gives me as a vocalist. It makes collaborating, recording harmonies, and sharing ideas much easier, while still allowing me to focus on what matters most to me—the emotion and authenticity of the vocal performance.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise to my clients is to give every song my time, effort, and heart. I’ll listen to your vision, communicate throughout the process, and give you a vocal performance that is authentic, intentional, and true to the emotion of your song. I want you to feel confident knowing that I’m invested in helping bring your vision to life.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: What I love most is being able to use my gift to connect with people and bring a song to life. I love the feeling of taking a song and helping complete it. I also love teaching young singers and watching their confidence grow as they discover what they can do with their own voices.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: “Can you sing harmonies and background vocals for my song?” Absolutely! I love creating harmonies and background vocals. I’ll listen to the song and work out vocal parts that complement the lead, add depth, and fit the emotion and style of the song. I’m also happy to work from specific harmony ideas if the artist already has something in mind.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: The biggest misconception is that being a vocalist is just about having a good voice. There’s so much more to it—understanding emotion, phrasing, dynamics, harmonies, and knowing how to make your voice serve the song. A great vocal performance is about connecting with the music and helping bring the artist’s vision to life.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I like to ask about the vision for the song, the style and sound they’re going for, and what they want the listener to feel. I also ask whether they’re looking for lead vocals, background vocals, harmonies, or a combination. I like to hear the song or demo and any reference tracks they have so I can understand the direction they want to take.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: My advice is to look for a vocalist who not only has a strong voice, but also understands your vision and the emotion behind your song. Communication and trust are important to me, and I believe the best collaborations happen when the vocalist takes the time to understand what the artist is trying to create. Find someone whose voice and style fit the feeling you want your song to have.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My microphone, wireless microphone system, laptop, headphones, and speakers. If I’m going to be stranded on an island, I might as well have everything I need to keep singing!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been singing my entire life, and music has always been a major part of who I am. I’ve been singing professionally for about 15 years, with experience in Gospel, worship, R&B, live performance, and vocal collaborations. Along the way, I’ve also developed a passion for teaching and mentoring young singers. I love both performing and helping others discover confidence in their own voices.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I would describe my vocal style as soulful, expressive, warm, and versatile. My Gospel background has given me a strong foundation in harmonies and emotional delivery, while my love for R&B allows me to bring a soulful and intimate quality to my vocals.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with CeCe Winans. Her voice and musicality have been a huge inspiration to me, and I admire the way she brings so much emotion and authenticity to every performance. With my own background in Gospel and worship, I would love the opportunity to contribute vocals and harmonies to a project with her.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t be afraid to leave space in a song. Strong vocals and harmonies don’t always need to be layered throughout the entire track. Knowing when to add harmonies and when to let the lead vocal stand alone can make the vocal arrangement much more powerful and emotional.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I primarily work in Gospel, R&B, and Christian worship music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is understanding vocals, especially harmonies, vocal arrangement, and emotional delivery. I have a strong ear for finding vocal parts that complement a song.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring soul, emotion, strong harmonies, and authenticity. I love finding the right vocal parts that add depth without taking away from the lead or the message of the song. My experience as a vocalist and vocal teacher has also helped me develop a strong ear for melody, harmony, and vocal expression.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start by listening to the song and getting familiar with the artist’s vision and the emotion they want to convey. I learn the melody and lyrics, then work on my vocal delivery, harmonies, and background parts based on what the song needs. I’ll record my vocals, listen back carefully, and make any adjustments needed to make sure the performance feels natural, polished, and true to the song.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a private room that I use as my dedicated music space. My setup includes my laptop, speakers, headphones, and wireless microphone. While it’s not a traditional studio, it gives me a comfortable, private environment where I can focus on my vocals, practice, and work on collaborations.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by vocalists who can combine incredible technique with genuine emotion. Artists like CeCe Winans, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Jazmine Sullivan, Brandy, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin have influenced me in different ways. I admire their ability to tell a story through their voices, create powerful harmonies, and make a listener truly feel the music.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I primarily provide lead vocals, background vocals, and harmonies for Gospel, R&B, and worship music. I also provide vocal lessons for children and teens up to age 17, helping young singers develop confidence, technique, musicality, and a genuine love for singing.
