Interview with Angelo Albani
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m particularly proud of the projects where I contributed not only as a vocalist but also as a topliner and vocal arranger. The Damn Dogs, a blues rock band that released a second album named BLUES FOR THE LOST SOULS. Those are the situations where I can fully shape the identity of a song.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m currently working on a mix of music releases and advertising projects, continuing to explore different styles and collaborations.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I prefer to focus on the project and recommend collaborators based on the specific needs of the client.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Digital for flexibility and precision, analog for character and warmth when needed.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will treat your project with professionalism, care, and full commitment until we achieve the best possible result.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Giving a song a voice and seeing it come to life.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: One common question is about pricing. My answer is that it depends on the type of project—songs and advertising work are very different and require different agreements.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That singing is just about hitting the right notes. In reality, it’s about interpretation, storytelling, and emotion.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about the artistic vision, references, intended use of the track, and deadlines. For advertising projects, I also clarify usage rights and fees in advance.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who understands your vision and communicates clearly. Technical skills are important, but connection and reliability make the real difference.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A microphone, an audio interface, a laptop, headphones, and a reliable power source.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been working as a professional singer for over 40 years. My career spans live performances, studio recordings, and extensive work in advertising.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Versatile, expressive, and focused on delivering performances that serve the song.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with artists who value identity and storytelling in music—those who are not afraid to sound like themselves.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Focus on emotion before perfection. A technically perfect take means nothing if it doesn’t move the listener.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across different genres, from pop and rock to commercial and advertising music. You can find some of my work on Spotify under projects like The Damn Dogs, The Voodoo, and collaborations such as Angelo Albani & Damiano Marino.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Interpreting a song in a way that feels authentic and emotionally convincing.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring experience, musicality, and emotional interpretation. My goal is not just to sing the notes, but to give the song a voice and a personality that connects with the listener.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the client’s vision, references, and expectations. Then I record and deliver a first version, leaving room for feedback and revisions. I believe in a collaborative process where communication is key.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio is designed to deliver high-quality vocal recordings with great attention to detail. I focus on capturing clean, expressive performances and providing files that are ready for professional production workflows. I work on all of my productions using Logic Pro X on a Mac, a Lewitt LCT 440 Pure microphone, a Fender Telecaster '92 for the electric parts and Taylor 214 for acoustic guitars
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists and producers who have a strong identity and emotional impact. From classic vocalists to modern producers, I admire those who can make a song instantly recognizable and meaningful. I grew up with David Coverdale, Steve Perry, Jeff Buckley, Sting...
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I mainly work as a professional vocalist with over 40 years of experience. I record lead vocals, backing vocals, and vocal arrangements for songs, as well as toplines. I also work extensively in advertising, where the approach is more specific and requires a tailored agreement depending on usage and rights.
