True Hails for Hugo once again. Only the best.
Hugos the best! Always a pleasure!
Hugo elevated the song to a new level, would definitely work with him again!
Our second collaboration. Smooth process and awesome drumming. 5 STARS!
I had brought to Hugo what I believed to be a bit tricky and he nailed it! He has a great understanding of feel and groove, and provides results that will definitely exceed your expectations.
5th track I've done with Hugo, and he just keeps getting better! He is able to quickly get the vibe off the track and come up with a drum track that fits perfectly. Highly recommended!!!
Over the years I have worked with Hugo a few times and
each time my expectations have been far exceeded.
With his sense of what a song needs, Hugo brings the songs to a new level. If you are looking for rock drums, do yourself a favor and book Hugo. Here you get perfectly recorded drums, from a really very nice person.
Always the highest pleasure.
Hugo always brings it the first time with no need for revisions. Look no further when needing a solid drum track.
This guy should be playing stadiums and arenas around the world!
A great musician!
Hugo has caught the vibes and mood of our song and delivered a 200% perfect drums track. The cooperation was excellent as well!
I am looking forward to starting a new project with Hugo.
Brilliant, creative and the mix sounds massive as always, and never needed more than one revision to get exactly what I was looking for (or even better) despite my vague poetic descriptions :)
Hugo proves why he is my go-to guy, again! He took my boring, basic, pre-programed midi drums and made them human! Impactful! And epic! His added embellishments always compliment your composition and made the whole song come to life. Hugo is THE man!
Another track, another satisfied customer! Thank Hugo!
Has a huge, organic sound that plays to the song and not overplay for ego's sake. The files practically mix themselves, very professionally recorded. Will want to work with Hugo again!
There's a reason Hugo is my go-to! He's always on-point and then some. He's total professional and I would definitely recommend his services to anyone looking for a top-notch player!
Another amazing track! Hugo is the man...that is all!
Love working with Hugo again as always, another great drum result! He is a pro and a great person to work with on capturing the ideas you are looking for.
Hugo is the best to work with! Always delivers exactly what I need and then some!
True Hails to the great ones as always, same drive, percussion, and top A playing as always.
Interview with Hugo Ribeiro
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Some drummers off the top of my head: Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mike Portnoy, Chad Smith, Thomas Haake, Bobby Jarzombek, Carter Beauford, Mike Mangini, Matt Sorum, Lars Ulrich, Tommy Lee, Vinnie Paul, and many others.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Some people still think this profession is more of a hobby.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Drums - Sonor Select Force Maple, Yamaha Oak Custom Cymbals - Sabian AA; HH; AAX; Artisan Drumheads - Remo Mics - Sennheiser, Shure and Sontronics Interface - Motu
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Always track your song to a metronome/click.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What's the bpm of the song? :)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been playing drums and in bands for over 20 years. I've done high profile gigs and more "humble" gigs through the years. I've also been fortunate to open for some major international acts such as Nightwish, Helloween, Moonspell, Soilwork, Opeth, Paradise Lost, HIM, Gojira, Behemoth, The Haunted, Ramp, The Gift, Paulo Gonzo, Xutos & Pontapés.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I developed a Rock/Metal style with a strong progressive mentality.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Anybody with talent, creativity and vision.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to keep it real with triggering and sampling to a minimum. :)
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I get a lot of Rock and Metal requests but I have also done other genres such as Pop, Blues and Country.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Hummm... consistency I think.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My main focus is to articulate what's best for your song while complimenting what you have in mind for it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: This is how it usually works: My clients send me 2 versions of the same song in MP3 format because its much lighter to transfer than WAV/AIFF. One with programmed drums(if there are any) and one without the drums so I can record over the song without the programmed drums getting in the way. The programmed drums are usually for reference and are an idea of want the client wants and I go from there. Sometimes I'm given complete freedom to do what I think fits the song better and other times they want me to do more or less what they did with the programmed drums but at the same time put my ideas and feel here and there. Each case is different. After I record your song, I send you an mp3 with what I recorded for your approval so you can decide if you want anything changed or not. If all is ok with the song, I send you the full WAV files of the individual tracks after payment is received.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I provide professional quality live drums for bands and artists.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Desolate Plains - a project from Greece with the album "Practicing The Inner Arts" which came out in 2017. Armortura - a metal band from the UK with their self title album "Armortura" coming early 2018. I'm particularly proud of my drum work and the all the talented personnel involved on those albums.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Yes: https://soundbetter.com/profiles/4573-marcello
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both because each has its strengths.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will do my best to accommodate your needs and the fulfill your vision of the song the best I can.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Freedom and creativity.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you send a Stereo Mix of the drums? I say, YES!
