After moving to Nashville in 2007, I have spent the entirety of my career working in music. I have been blessed to work with some amazing artists along the way. I have toured as a musician with artists such as Josh Wilson, Mikeschair, Brit Nicole, Jason Gray, Midnight Pilot and JJ Heller. Many of those artists I have gotten a chance to work in the studio with. My production and mixes for Midnight Pilot and Coopertheband have been featured in many major films and television shows.

Interview with Kyle Schonewill

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I studied Audio Engineering at Belmont University. After college, I started my own studio where I mixed and produced songs for new artists. For a few years I toured very heavily as a guitarist and then bassist for a few Major Label bands. Some years I played 100-150 shows. Every day that I was home though, I used my touring knowledge and live mixing knowledge to grow in the studio. In 2017, I spent most of my time doing audio engineering and mixing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Indie Rock, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, Pop Rock, and Worship music are my specialty.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is being able to have a creative yet technical ear that allows me to make decisions along the way that positively effect the outcome of the final song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Being a musician myself, I like to bring a creative flair to my mixes. I want the final mix to speak to you in a creative and musical way.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of a private studio setup in Nashville, TN. The studio is acoustically treated to be as accurate as possible. Some of the gear I have in there includes a Mac Pro, 2 screens, KRK Rokit 8 monitors with a 10 inch sub, all kinds of musical instruments and gear, countless plugins (including Waves), an Apogee Symphony for conversion, Vintech and API preamps and a monitor EQ I trust and have dialed in.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: There are so many people that inspire me today. Some of my favorite artists are Colony House, Coldplay, Muse, and Sleeping at Last.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Typically I am involved in the entire production of a song from start until finish. By working with these clients from the beginning, I am able to musically help shape the entire sound into something we can both be proud of. I also specialize in mixing. In that scenario, you send me your fully produced and edited tracks and I will send you back a completed mix.
