Interview with Peyton Shetler
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I'm a details-oriented person. What helps me most is to take frequent steps back and look at the project as a whole, see the big picture.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Praise & Worship, Country, Rock, mostly.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I believe I have a decent ability to know what goes where in a song. WHAT, WHEN, & HOW to play in a project.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try very hard to bring what the songwriter wants to life.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I enjoy the initial time spent just listening to the song itself before I play anything. I want to open myself up to the emotions that the song might spark, then follow that. After that, I'll let myself become more analytical and make changes/edits/finishing touches/etc.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Basic 2-track set-up: Apollo twin, UA plug ins, Mac, Bluesman Vintage Basses. I have 3 tuners.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Coldplay and, more specifically, Guy Berryman. His simplistic approach is gold to me. Also, Verdine White of Earth, Wind, & Fire. His outlook on music inspires me to step outside my own head and try new, possibly uncomfortable things in music that I wouldn't have normally tried. And a lot of times, it turns out really cool.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Tracking mostly. Sometimes I help with re-works of chord progressions, etc.
