Interview with BossJr

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My first album titled SZN. I'm proud of it simply because it was my first time having my music on all media platforms. I also shot my first music video to one of the songs from the album. I was a major role in this along with Saint. He and I spent hours writing and revising and re-recording songs jus so we would put out nothing less than heat.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm currently working on three projects. One is a solo EP i plan on dropping late this year. Another is a project with Saint that will drop soon. and the last is a compilation tape that my team is putting together scheduled to drop this summer.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: SaintFromSC. Dude is crazy talented.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, only because analog degrades over time.

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: How fast can i get what is worked on back to them. My wait time is 5-10 business days

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: That you will not wait long for anything that is requested from me. That i will give everything i have on all projects. That i will treat every project like its mine and respect the privacy of the client.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: When people know the lyrics to your song and you see them post it on their social media.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Most people that don't do music think that its simple as having a beat recording it and you're famous. When all in all that's not even close to how it goes.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Will the beat be provided if requesting song to be written or will I have to find one myself? If auto tune is used, how heavy do you want it if it matters?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I use auto tune on almost all of my songs so if you really don't like auto tune recorded music then I can tyi to give you a great song without it but I don't recommend it.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: IPhone, Laptop with Pro Tools and all plug-ins already installed, a mic, my engineer and a plane to get back once I have all that music recorded.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been writing/recording music for 10 years. I started out with mixcraft and recording on a karaoke microphone and haven't looked back since.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style isn't one of kind but it is unique. i really cant find words to describe it but I've had good reviews from my music.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with Chris Brown. I believe he is one of the best if not the best singers and dancers that we've had in a while. And he's consistent with it. If you see his name on a song if its a feature or his song you can almost guarantee a banger.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't second guess yourself. If you think it should be done a certain way or it should sound a certain way then go for it. Don't Worry what the next man/woman thinks about it.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mostly i work on Hip-Hop/Rap music but I enjoy working on R&B music a lot.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is word play and rhyme schemes.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring the hype to a song. The bounce that makes you want to get up when listening to it. I also bring the "sauce". The sauce is what my colleges and i call that major factor that turn a song from good to great.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I like to play the beat out loud for a while to catch the feel of it then I find out what cadence would sound good with the beat. After that its time to fill in the blanks and put the words into place. When the song is finished I like to listen to the song a few times through speakers in the studio and with headphones to catch the "weak" parts of the songs.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: The studio I record in has an "A" and a "B" room. One is higher quality than the other but both are high quality professional recording studios.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I like the ambition of any independent artist and how they find ways themselves.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I usually write a hook, verse, or entire songs.
