Interview with Vince Nantes

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My friend August Rigo's EP, "1243." I was a co writer on the 3 track EP. It is not everyday you get to co write with someone that's written songs for Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and Kehlani.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Artists projects, EP's and full albums, but I can't say who.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Anyone I work with on SoundBetter I would recommend. That's another great feature about this platform, building a community.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital, because that just the learning platform I grew from.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To deliver the most honest & top quality songs I can possibly give you.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being able to work with creative people like me and YOU. The process is fun, especially when you like the people you're working with.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Publishing questions after the song is completed. But I leave all that up to my lawyer.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Thankfully, none thus far.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: When do we get to work?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Everyone can tell you what they can or can't do, and give you all the reasons to do so. My confidence is no different, but I would rather you LISTEN to my work & then decide from there.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My laptop, Apollo Twin, my mic, a midi keyboard, and my cellphone.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been doing this for over 10 years. Music has always been my main focus.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My own.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: We all have that artist or artists we would all love to ideally work with. For me, it's being able to find & work with an artist from the ground up. Developing them into that artist everyone wants to work with.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Use your ears.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop, R&B, Hip Hop/Rap

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Being able to write & produce a full song from beginning to end providing a fully mixed vocal demo.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Melodies & Toplines

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I don't have a general formula with how I work. I base everything of instinct and feeling. Sometimes the words come first, and sometimes it's the music.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a home studio set up. A dense room, fitted with professionally installed acoustic panels from top to bottom. Logic Pro X is my preferred DAW of choice as that is what I use to produce and record vocals. Aside from MIDI keyboards, I run everything through my Apollo Twin Duo, Yamaha HS8 monitors, & Avantone CV-12 Mic.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I tend to get inspired by similar people I work in the room with. I find myself always doing research on who wrote and who produced songs of today & yesterday. From there I gain my inspiration.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Songwriting full songs or top lines are the main types of work I do for my clients. I am capable of writing and producing full songs, but again, the need or want of the client comes first.
