Interview with Mystic Alankar

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly chill, pop and hip hop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Understanding the vision of an artist and creating musical arrangements that compliment the songwriting.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The workflow we usually follow is: 1. You send us a rough recording or scratch version of your song recorded on a metronome at the tempo of the song, along with a text file containing details about the tempo, scale, song structure, mood of the song, references for the type of instrumentation, and any other details that you think are important for your song. 2. Once we've received the scratch version, we meet online to discuss about your musical tastes and preferences. Based on this conversation, we will come to know the genre and mood of the song, and the instrumentation will follow accordingly. 3. We create a beat that complements the songwriting and send it to you for review. This will be a rough draft of the instrumental track in MP3 format. We will send you two versions, one with the scratch track you provided and one without. 4. If there is a requirement of revisions, we provide programming revisions and Mix-Master revisions. a) Mix-Master Revision: Change in balance and clarity of the audio, vocal processing, etc. b) Programming Revision: Programming revisions could be anything from changes in the arrangement to changes in synth textures/soundscape. The underlying musical idea will remain the same. 5. You record the vocals in a studio near you and sends us WAV files of the raw recording. The files must be exported from the beginning to the end of the song. All files preferably recorded at 48kHz / 24-bit WAV format. 6. We receive the raw recordings and mix with the beats and master the file so that it's ready for release commercially. We send the final output in WAV and high quality MP3 formats. Acapella and instrumental versions of the track can be sent upon request at no additional fee. If you have any queries or concerns feel free to let us know.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: The studio is a double room project studio with one recording room and one monitoring room. We use Ableton and Logic as our main DAWs. The studio setup is elegant with Class A and Class B equipment. We have Nuemann, Rode, Aston and Shure microphones, a Focusrite interface, Audient interface, Yamaha HS8 speakers and a Hex Core Mac Pro with 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD. We use a variety of plugins such as Waves, Fab Filter and Valhalla and soft synths such as Omnisphere, Serum, Massive and Spire. Kontakt libraries are also often used.
