Chicago Bob on SoundBetter

Award winning creator of original top 10 music with a unique ability to create music that matches the intent and feeling of the project vision. Creates music for existing lyrics and can develop lyrics/melody and/or instrumental tracks that can be combined with vocals to develop a complete song. Bob is also a great coach and mentor for those new

The typical feedback Bob gets is that his songs and productions capture the intent of the project and are reflective, contemplative and beautiful. He tends to be more of a pop/indie/country/worship/rock ballad mid-tempo writer but also enjoy creating chill, EDM , New Age and music that can work on orchestra soundtracks, meditation, corporate and other sync projects.

Early during the developmental process Bob will send draft versions to make sure you are on the same path and/or adjust accordingly to insure complete client satisfaction. When developing lyrics and toplines for your project you will receive a vocal demo which can be used to guide the final vocalist.

If you need production of the entire song Bob can hire the singer, final mixer and any other services you may need to complete your song project.

Bob has always worked in studios in Minneapolis, Chicago, LA and Nashville and has collaborated with artists and songwriters across the world. As a studio musician his keyboards and blues harmonica are widely used.

For those new to the music business Bob also provides coaching and mentoring to help you understand the music business and getting your songs distributed and played.

Once again, a crisp, clean rendition of a pop hit. He produced a cover track of Waffle House by Jonas Brothers, and it sounded great

Bob always produces the greatest music for my melodies and lyrics.
He is gifted beyond measure, every time his creations blend and enhance my songs and brings them to life. His instrumentals calm my three year old granddaughter, she sits and smiles through the entire performance.
    Magic indeed...

Interview with Chicago Bob

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Several original songs. I won an award for the top 40 songwriters in 2019 and would like to win again in 2023. I am also working creating music for several clients that have lyrics and needs original music that fits the intent of the song. Also writing for film and video.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: I have used several and recommend: Mella, Erika Rehn, Xtina, Rahime

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: 100% guarantee. If they don't like it I will fix it. I will also be available after the project is complete to help as needed

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: There are three types-- one the business side about rights to the song. The other about timing to get the project done. The third is do you think you can make this song magical

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That this is easy and everyone can write songs and produce quality music

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Listen to the demo songs they provide and see if they have the style you are looking for. read their bio to see if their musical interests meets the needs of your project. Everyone wants to be hired but I wouldn't be a good choice for types of music that I don't like or listen to

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: Starting songwriting and using computers with midi in 1985 which was the beginning of computer music. Been doing music professionally for over 10 years.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Contemplative and engaging music

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I get hired for all type of work but a lot of my clients like EDM, Folk and Country and rock ballads, slow rock, indi-pop and instrumentals. I am working on expanding into Drill, Trap and Rap but not there yet.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Developing hooks and melody for existing lyrics or for instrumentals

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: If there is no lyrics to begin I start with cords, build song structure and tempo and them right melody to the chords. When I have lyrics I start with the melody and then create tempo and chords and structure. When I don't have a project I just play random chords and melody to see what happens. I am always recording to make sure I don't miss that magic when it happens. I am spending a lot of time exploring AI as a development tool that expands my creative process

  23. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  24. A: Running several MacBook Pros and a Mac Studio Ultra as my computer all running logic pro. Use Native Instruments and keyboards, Roli Sounds and keyboards with EastWest Sounds and Komplete Kontrol as my main libraries. Have several guitars, harmonicas and mandolin. Use Scarlett 2i2 as my audio device with IK Multimedia MTM iLoud monitors

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: I love EDM, country, rock and pop/rock ballets, new age-chill and old school RAP/HipHop

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Let it come naturally --fine the zone of "flow".

  29. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  30. A: Two years ago I created a song for my best friend, who died just after he had a second baby. His wife was over at my house and said I miss him more, not less, since he's been gone. I thought that was a perfect song and began writing words and a melody and then a production and had it completed here with a singer and mixer. Gave it to the family for Christmas--there wasn't a dry eye in the room. This is that song

  31. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  32. A: Digital --easier more mobile. Somethings like harmonica, mandolin are analog because I can't replicate it weill digitally

  33. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  34. A: Creativity and the results a song has on the customer when they hear their song come alive

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: Do they have a vision of what they want the song to be? What style? What is the purpose? Is there a singer? Is there a time limit for the song? When is the project due? What is important to you? How much do you want to be involved in the process?

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: Keyboard, Computer with Logic Pro, Acoustic Guitar and Harmonica, any mic. (solar battery to charge it all)

  39. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  40. A: Ryan Tedder. Great songwriter and performer John Lennon because he is John Lennon Neil Young a great song writer Adel - would love for her to sing one of my songs
