R.C. Rossell on SoundBetter

I want to collaborate with you for all of your guitar needs! Your song deserves the best. I have studied and worked with some of LA's top session guitarists and musicians. In doing so I have acquired all of the tools and experience needed to deliver exactly what your song needs.

I was raised on my dad's classic rock records and my mom's variety of pop records from the '80s and '90s. From there I quickly developed an affinity for blues and jazz, and now there isn't a genre of music I'm not willing to explore. This musical journey landed me in Los Angeles, where I have performed with some of the world's finest musicians including Patrice Rushen, Michael Stoller (Lieber & Stoller), Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report), Paul Jackson Jr. (Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson), and many more.

I have a degree in Studio/Jazz Guitar Performance from the USC Thornton School of music, and I am ready and eager to lay down any and all guitar parts for your song with all of the professionalism that you deserve. Whether you need soaring single note lines, lush chordscapes, or something in between; I'm your guy!

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

R.C. provided a fantastic arrangement on this song. To my astonishment, not only does R.C. play wonderful guitars, he actually truly is multi-instrumentalist (and at a very high level). The mix was also so good. I could not recommend R.C. enough for your projects.

I proudly and enthusiastically endorse RC Rossell as a session guitarist. He brought some really flavored guitar licks to my project a few years ago. RC is all around talented guy who works and plays well with others. He thinks outside of the box and delivers a tone and feel that is suited to anything he dives into. -- Dale Pantalione of Liquid Eclipse

Interview with R.C. Rossell

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I've been working on a lot of library music for sync licensing. Particularly some country tracks that I'm really enjoying producing.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Michael Arrom! I believe he is already a top provider on here so he's easy to find, but he is the absolute best for all things keys and arranging!

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: You can't deny that the digital world has gotten scary close when it comes to recreating all of the analog gear that we love. And the affordability, portability, and accessibility is really hard to ignore nowadays. But man, every time I get the chance to fire up any piece of analog gear, it always seems to give me an extra 10% that is really hard to put my finger on. Analog baby!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Every day provides a new opportunity to help someone express themselves. That to me is always super exciting.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: Most of the sessions I do are either Rock, Pop, Americana, or R&B. I perform with a lot of musicians who play in these styles and those skills translate right to my sessions.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I make sure that the song is being served first and foremost. Context is everything. Everything that I play has to help tell the story and augment it in the best way possible.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: When I'm sent a song to play on, I like to listen to it a few times through and really get a feel for everything that's happening. I figure out lyrically what it is about, and try to keep that in mind throughout the process of recording my parts. I then listen to the arrangement to find what's happening there. Does the guitar need to take up a lot of space, or will a few tasteful lines here and there do the trick? Once I have all the information I need, I start laying down some parts and usually send clients a few different ideas.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: I'm super inspired by Blake Mills. His playing is super creative and always brings to a song exactly what it needs, whether he is playing for a song or producing it.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I most commonly add electric and acoustic guitar tracks to songs that are in various stages of completeness. Sometimes I'm the first one to record on a song, and sometimes I'm the last. Each song is a new puzzle that I love completing!
