Sebastian Rojas Baquero on SoundBetter

I'm a Diamond-certified mixing engineer specializing in Dolby Atmos. I've worked with artists like Shaboozey, The Teskey Brothers, Tanerelle, Oxlade, Yamê, and more. My goal is to make your music an amazing and timeless sonic experience for you and your fans. My core values are understanding and respecting your artistic vision. Let's work together!

I love working with people and music from different backgrounds and at various stages of their careers. I work across a wide range of genres, including Pop, R&B, Afrobeats, Hip-hop, Jazz, and Soundtracks. Growing up, I listened to and studied music from all around the world, which has given me a deep understanding of what makes music move and what producers and artists intend while writing it. That being said, I highly encourage having an open channel of communication to ensure we are on the same page. Good sonics are easy to get, capturing the right feeling is what sets me apart from other mixers.

I started working in Dolby Atmos in 2019, making me one of the early adopters of the format, and I've been in love with it since. I have a certified Dolby Atmos studio in Berlin, which is where I mostly work from. I've been working on immersive mixing since before it became cool, and all that extra time allowed me to experiment without any pressure. Now that the demand is growing, I can guarantee incredible, jaw-dropping, and consistent mixes that will make you want to listen only to Atmos mixes from that point on.

Let's talk! Tell me about your project and your aspirations, and let's figure out together how I can help you.

I worked with Sebastian and he's an excellent Producer and Mixing Engineer. The Workflow was really good and one of the most remarkable characteristics from Sebastian is that he listens to what you have to say and then he proposes an idea, which are really musical, but if you do disagree he gives you alternatives until you are really happy with the end result. I can recommend Sebastian 100% having worked with him side by side.

Sebastian is a great producer and sound engineer! I work together for over 1 1/2 year with him and hopefully in the future as well. He is not only well trained, it’s also his refreshing mindset and alternatively ideas, which makes recording and working with him a great experience!

Interview with Sebastian Rojas Baquero

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I'll work until you are happy with the results.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I love working on new music and watching artist listen to their music for the first time in Atmos

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: What are the aesthetics of the record? Who do you want to reach? What are the references for the music or sound?

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: My speakers (all of them haha), my Metric Halo, a Gefell m70, a midi keyboard and an acoustic guitar.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Timing, timing, timing. Moving stuff back and forward just a bit, makes a lot of difference in how the pocket feels.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Understanding my client's needs.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I can bring ideas to life. Make the big and full, aggressive, or danceable. I will do what ever it takes to honor the song.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: After receiving a project I try to get into a call with the client or some sort of communication to understand the intention and vision for the record. After that, I go ahead and do a mix, and after that, we continue working sending notes and mixes back and forth until we get it. It normally takes 2 to 3 revisions max. Another option I like is having Audiomovers running so the artist can tune in at any point and listen to how the mix is going.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I work mainly in the box, but I still enjoy going out of it for re-amping sources, using spring reverbs and saturation devices. I have some selected pieces of out-board that I like to use for mastering. I have a Dolby Atmos-certified studio with a 7.1.4 system in it. On the front, I have all ATCs and for the surround and high speaker I use Kali Audio IN 8s.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: As a musician I feel inspired by people like Jack White, U2, D'Angelo, Manu Chao, Meridian Brothers, Charlie Garcia, The Divine Comedy, Snarky Puppy among others. There are a lot of engineers/producers I respect like Manny Marroquin, Tchad Blake, Eric Valentine, Nigel Godrich, Phil Ramone, Greg Wells, etc...

  21. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  22. A: Both are great. No reason to do just one.
