Interview with KRUSH AUDIO

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Sannex (a band from Sweden) in 2017 and did recording, engineering and production/sounsscape and post production work on that album and got Nominated for a Grammy Award in 2018.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Im working on writing curriculum for a clinic Im teaching in the South Carolina educational system currently and hope to scale to other areas of the United Stated.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: If someone wants to link up with a quality Beatmaker and audio guy, Id recommend my guy Rob Casavant. Id also recommend Joe West, Jeff Daughtery, Kurt Legnon and Josh Jordan.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Hybrid because you get the best out of both worlds. that assumes that you have the budget and ability to house heavy, expensive, hot pieces of gear that are also old and frequently need repair.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I am a music lifer and have loved music from the day I chose to make it my career. It's what I live eat and breathe and is, easily, my favorite thing to do and create. My passion comes through in the work I do and the way in which I interpret the audio. I imagine my clients hire me because of my knowledge, sound and style. they dig the way I get them to the finish line. You also should be a good hang.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I get the unique opportunity to do exactly what I love to do and I get to work at perfecting my craft and striving to be better on a daily basis.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Anyone can do what I do at an extremely high level and there is no inherent "worth/value" in what we do. Te truth is that thought process couldn't be further from the truth.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: How committed are they to learning the music business? Do they play an instrument or read music? Ever been in a band or played a sport? Do you understand you have to spend money and have an established budget to do this the right way?

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I've been working in the music business for the past 30 years plus. I started as an Artist and gravitated to writing, producing and engineering music for the past 15 years. Bachelors and Masters in Music (totally not necessary but it was my path)

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Gritty and inspired. I go for it and rarely question myself.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Prince...pretty self explanatory. Musical genius and to be able to be inspired by and creative with him would be an unmistakable experience.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Sure, if you drink water in 3rd world countries you will Produce lots of things you never expected to Produce. Lol.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Hip Hop, Americana, Soul, Funk, Jazz and more.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: My ability to focus on the song and keeping that the most important thing in the room.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: The ability to be a chameleon in the creative process and show up and be whatever you need me to be to get the song to the finish line.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: Oh there are lots of them. As far as Producers, there are traditional Producers like Rick Rubin,Warren Zevon and writers like Max Martin. Im inspired by Mike Dean, Jaycen Joshua, Dave Pensado, CLA, TLA, Lu Diaz.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: I typically work with clients in 1 of 2 main capacities. Im either the Producer in the traditional sense and handling many of the hats in the creative process or Im a hired gun as an Engineer. I enjoy both roles very much and pride myself on being extremely versatile.
