David Ruffin Jr. on SoundBetter

You may recognize me on the hook for Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice." I'm a singer/songwriter/music producer and I'd love to help bring your project to life.

Being born during the rise of Motown to the late great, David Ruffin, this young future R&B crooner grew up standing among Detroit's finest. He's written and sang the chorus for Mtv's & VH1's all time Top 100 Hip-Hop songs, "Gin & Juice", ranked at #8. A Hip-Hop Classic with Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg, and has worked with other stellar artists such as Kurupt, Daz, Nate Dogg, Sisqo & Jazz of DruHill, just to name a few.

He has also performed with and opened for many legendary acts including but not limited to DruHill and Shanice Wilson,

Interview with David Ruffin Jr.

  1. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  2. A: Bruno or Snoop. Snoop owes me a couple... lol

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: Old school riffs and swing to my vocals. Feelings along with something to think about.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: My process is pretty elementary. I sit in on a session, where they is usually a producer or a band and I write lyrics as the track is being built, the classic way. I also listen to tracks that are submitted and go with the ones that give me goosebumps!

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: In the past years, highly touted music publications such as The Rolling Stone, The Source and Rap Pages have labeled me as "talented and up-and-coming"… But I credit my father, along with Joe, Usher, Anthony Hamilton and 80s crooners, Alexander O’Neal, James D-Train Williams, and the great Marvin Gaye as my major influences.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: Songwriting full songs, hooks, background vocals and live performances.
