Cris Tejada on SoundBetter

Im a professional Chilean producer/mixer of pop music. I can make a full production around a simple melody and chords, or I also can arrange your songs! I will mix your songs whether they are fully recorded elsewhere or music we have collaborated on. I have some amazing pluggins, and outboard gear for mixing, and excellent tools for producing.

Im a professional Chilean producer/mixer of pop and indie pop music. I learned mixing and producing with great musicians and mixer. I like to understand production and mixing as very important aspect of music in general. Is not only about making a beautiful arrangement or a balanced mix, is understanding the artist and the aesthetic vibe. In other words, is making the mix more about the artistic universe that you can create, than rather just a technical thing.

I have worked in recording, producing and mixing since 5 years now. I can make a full production around a simple melody and chords, or I also can help you producing it, or maybe make arranges to your songs! I will mix your songs whether they are fully recorded elsewhere or music we have worked on. I have some amazing pluggins, and outboard gear for mixing, and excellent tools for producing. My main focus is helping you to create your own aesthetic.

I can also record guitars, basses, and synths.

Interview with Cris Tejada

  1. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  2. A: I always try to work an idea, a concept. I will help you to give the song his own character and colour. I want to help you, to be you!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Analog is very cool, if you can use it! use it, and if not, use digital. Hey! They are just tools :)

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: If I could choose any pieces of gear of the world? an 73 pre neve, a pultec eqp1, a ssl strip channel and a la2a comp. Just that!

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: Im nerd and I love technical stuff, but I always have in mind an artistic approach.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Listen!!! Dont follow "tricks" or "rules", every song its a different emotional world. So, listen to it! and find your own solutions for the specifics of the song. pd: yeah, rules are very very important, and its good to know it, and mastering the basics will only improve your performance as a mixer, but never be tempted to use the rules automatically, always listen!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Pop, electro pop, indie pop, ritmos latinos!, strange stuff

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: For recording its depends if you have already a line, or do you want me to create you something (Of course, creating will be a little more expensive). In the first case, you send me the line, I learn it, and record it. In the second case, I ask for reference, and then I will send you ideas, and you will decide, then I will record the final version. For mixing, you have send me all the consolidated files, then I always will ask you for two important things, first what is your idea for the song, reference, and things like that. Second, what do you want me to do, just mix, eq, comp, and add reverbs/delays the song? or maybe you want me to explore and experiment a little more. I would love to try crazy stuff!!! Producing is always different, and It will depend of many factors, so lets talk and create together a good plan :)

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: My computer is a Mac Mini 2018 with 16gb ram, I have Ableton and Logic X, but Logic is main DAW. I own a lot of pluggins of Waves, Celemony, SoundToys, Arturia, roland cloud, etc. I have both Yamaha hs 8 and a crappy M audio monitor. My Interface is a Clarett 8prex, and I have an Ruper neve desing Pre, and a AMS neve Pre. I also use a Big Sky Strymon as a outboard effect reverb (sound amazing!). I have a Aguilar amp head, Jc40 Roland and a Hugh Kettner combo. I own a mustang squier, a Bullet 81 Fender, a as103 Ibanez (Jazz model like), a Telecaster bass squier and a b1006 LTD bass. I have two dave smith synths, and a korg minilogue. I have a Tr09 roland, and a lot of classic drum machines samples.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: I find that Jeff Ellis is huge inspiration for me, and his approach to mixing is incredible. I really love his work for Kali Uchis, Frank Ocean, etc. Carlos Barros (Alex Anwandter, Anita Tijoux, etc) is a chilean mixer that`s like my master, He has taught me a lot of things.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: In general I produce, and in the way I Mix the song that im producing. I dont do mastering nor editing. Also I have worked as bass/guitar/synth sessionist for live/studio situations.
