10+ years of experience in audio engineering R&B and Hip-Hop, with a resume including artists from Def Jam & Cash Money, my passion in music production and creative direction adds unique value to every project I work on.
From performing at the very first OVO Fest to collaborating with many hip-hop artists that come through the city including Joe Budden & Preme, as well as producers such as Noah '40' Shebib, Boi-1da, Sevn Thomas, and Pro Logic; Yuri Koller has a long deep rooted history in the Toronto music scene. He studied audio engineering at Trebas Musical Institute. Thereafter, he was accepted into The Remix Project, which afforded Yuri the opportunity to work with some of Toronto's best musicians and producers. A few years later, he opened RCR Studios, a recording studio located in downtown Toronto where he spent the past few years producing and engineering for many talented artists including J-Soul (Cash Money), & PVRX (Def Jam).

Interview with Yuri Koller
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Although I didn't mix the song, I did audio engineer and vocal produce a song called "Mixed by 40" by a Def Jam artist named PVRX. This song was mixed and mastered by none other than Drake's producer/engineer 40.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: As a mixer, I enjoy mixing and mastering simultaneously as it helps steer me in the direction of how I will want the final product to sound even at the beginning stage. When working with singers I usually start with manually fixing/tuning their vocals if needed and removing any dead air in their vocal tracks. Then I'll proceed with adding plugins such as de-essing, compression, eq, auto-tune (if needed) and saturation. Once I've got the vocals sounding how I like, I will work on mixing the production tracks if provided. I will then go back and forth on the production and the vocals until the vocals are sitting in a good pocket with the production. That's when I feel it's time to get creative with the effects such as reverb, delay, doubling, etc.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: A few producers who inspire me would have to be Timbaland, Dr Dre and MixedByAli
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I work mostly on Hip-Hop/Trap and R&B/Soul music. A typical studio session for me would be recording an artist's vocals while helping with vocal production, including harmony and background vocal ideas. Hip-hop artists usually enjoy the beat drops I add to help emphasize different parts of their songs.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Being a singer/musician myself, I believe it gives me a better understanding of what an artist wants in comparison to your traditional audio engineer

Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Having exceptional experience in using plugins such as Melodyne & Auto-Tune and perfecting my mixing style, I pride myself in making singers happy, making sure they have great, silky smooth, on-pitch, clean and modern vocals.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just be confident that you've done the best you could on the recording end before approaching a mixing engineer, such as singing in pitch, and isolated/dry vocals to ensure a clean mix. Have a demo version of your song ready for referencing purposes as well as an industry song that you would like your song to sound similar to.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I specialize in R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Trap music.
