Brandon Lehman on SoundBetter

If you need high quality and expressive guitar tracks with character, I've got your back and your track. Think of me as an extension of your instrumental or writing team. Listen to my Guitar Reel, click 'Contact' and let's make music!

I've been fortunate to work with a lot of artists across many different genres like Rock, Soul, Funk, R&B & Hip-Hop. I excel at changing gears quickly between genres and projects and keeping a pop-focus in my playing no matter what genre.

Session Guitar/Bass
I track electric, acoustic and bass guitar for singles, albums, covers, scores, commercials and more. I'll work directly with you on the best tone, energy and specific parts to serve your track best. I'm happy to work remote or in a local studio.

Songwriting (Music & Lyrics)
I've worked with many artists, including my own groups to construct songs that have a potent message with music to match. If you've got something to say, I'll help you find the words and the notes.

Producing/Arranging
Already have a song that you need to bring to life? I can produce your song and create an arrangement that speaks to your audience in the most direct way. I also work with a team of session musicians to give you the ultimate full-band build.

Interview with Brandon Lehman

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: Guitarists don't just shred!

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: For session work with other artists, I really like to learn where they were (mentally, emotionally) when their song or project came about. I love to study the lyrics and existing instrumentation deeply to determine my entry point for guitar in the track. It's also to uncover any references to existing artists or songs if they already had something in mind stylistically.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I work well between and across different genres and apply pop-elements to my playing regardless of genre. I do think both are very important for session guitar work and producing.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Guitar is such an expressive instrument and it shares a lot of qualities with the human voice. I take a very vocal approach to my guitar tracks that still support the message and vocals of the song effectively.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work in a few different studios. My home setup is a single room setup with drum kit, guitar amp and vocal area. I operate all in-the-box plugins there. I operate in other studios with dedicated rooms and outboard gear for bigger projects.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: I'm particularly inspired by Audiotree's live music sessions & production as well as NPR's Tiny Desk sessions. They nail the tones and mix every single time. As far as guitarists, I've really been digging into Ariel Posen, Justus West, Mateus Asato, Jack Rauch, & of course my #1 and #2 John Mayer & Derek Trucks.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I'll most commonly be asked to write and perform guitar & bass tracks for other artists. In some cases, the parts are already written, but I'll more often be writing as well.
