Producer, mixing engineer and multi-instrumentalist specialising in pop and indie pop music. 5+ million streams. I love combining experimental and obscure sounds with pristine pop production to create memorable and exciting music. Credits include: Cloning, IV DANTE, Ruen Brothers and more.

Hey there! First of all, thanks for checking out my profile! My name is Nic, I'm a producer and mixing engineer from Perth, Western Australia. I work predominantly in pop, indie pop and indie rock, but have also worked in a range of other genres too. I love learning new processes and styles of production/mixing, so feel free to reach out if exist in a different genre but like my style!

If you're curious - I didn't go to audio engineering or production school, I just learnt on the job starting out by producing and recording music for myself when I was 15. I'm a strong believer in experimentation and breaking rules as I think music is best when it's interesting and fun (which I think works well since my learning wasn't particularly conventional). In saying that, I love polish too, so don't worry about that.

Every song is different, so if we work together I'll spend time trying to understand what YOUR vision is, and then do all that I can to achieve that. Naturally your vision will become infused with my own style, but I think that's how good music gets made - when two different perspectives merge together.

My main priority is making sure that you're happy with the end result, so I'll work tirelessly to get it to perfection. If you have any questions feel free to reach out, I'm always down to have a chat! Have a great day :)

Being my first time working with someone for mixing and mastering, Nic understood exactly what I had in mind and worked hard to bring it to life with attention to detail and great care. He was super helpful and understanding throughout the whole process, always eager to go into detail explaining his approach or anything I wasn't familiar with. Nic is super friendly and talented, and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with him. Highly recommended!

This was my first time working with someone for mixing and mastering services. Nic made it incredibly easy and was very kind and thorough throughout the entire process. I’m a massive fan and will be working with him again for my future projects. Nic cared about my project immensely and paid attention to all the small details. I gave him a reference track of my own mix and he really brought it to life in a way I could never do on my own. I’m obsessed. Such a kind dude keen to keep working with him!

Interview with Nic Rollo

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I've worked super closely with the incredibly talented artist 'IV DANTE' who I now consider a good friend. We've worked on 10+ songs in the first 6 months of 2023 alone and I'm super excited about the tracks we've got coming up. For his stuff I've been co-writing the songs with him, then mixing and mastering the tracks once he's produced it and sent it to me.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Mostly digital - I like the flexibility.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I will work as hard as I can to make the song right for you - if that means it takes 100 revisions so be it. This isn't about me, I have my opinions and tastes, but at the end of the day I'm working on YOUR song so I want YOU to be happy with it.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I get to make friends with incredibly talented artists and make awesome music, it's pretty incredible.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: You!

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Learn the rules of music production, and then when you're comfortable destroy the rules and do stuff the 'wrong' way - it's way more exciting in my opinion.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Most of my time is spent making commercial pop, indie pop, and indie rock music.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I think my strongest skill with production is thinking outside of the box and doing strange/backwards/interesting things while still keeping stuff polished and 'pop'. I love to have fun when producing music, and I hope that shows in the finished product! I like to think I'm pretty good at vocal production & mixing too.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: If I'm producing I love to get sent vocals that I can start building a song around - vocals are the most important part of the song, the last thing I want to do is make things compete for attention. If I can't get vocals before I start producing, I'll make a rough beat and send it to you and then we can start going back and fourth until it's good enough to record over, then get vocals and finish it up. When mixing I like to be sent some reference tracks to get a vibe of where you want the song to go, and then I just get stuck in! I'm more than happy for you to sit in while I mix and/or produce via a private stream (or in person if you live in Perth).

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: My studio is pretty minimal - I've got just enough gear to be efficient without over-cluttering and adding too much unnecessary decision making, if that makes sense. My mixing is entirely in the box (no outboard gear used). Production wise I use a Kemper Amp Profiler religiously and an Arturia MiniFreak for hardware synth fun, but I mostly use plugins for making cool sounds.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: I'm currently obsessed with the album 'Waiting To Spill' by The Backseat Lovers, and Jeremy Zucker's new EP has killer production. Ian Kirkpatrick and Cirkut are probably my production heroes at the moment.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: My work sort of fluctuates between full songs (production, vocal recording, mixing and mastering) and external mixing/mastering jobs where I've had no input to the production. The last few months i've been involved a lot with artist development and full song work which has been awesome! I love helping a vision come to life.
