Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Mainly artists and producer who create a unique sound and identity such as Solomun and Salvatore Ganacci.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: It's hard to pick one but I do feel proud when I get a song to -6 LUFS with no clipping and still plenty of dynamic range. The beauty of mixing is how immediate the results are, it's the best feeling.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Upcoming signed release 'Next to Me' and mixes for my clients & Twitch subscribers.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I worked with an amazing singer Clementine for an upcoming release. She was excellent
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Ah the never ending debate. Both have advantages it's just about knowing where to apply them. It's not the tools but the tradesperson that makes the most difference.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Communication is key and you'll be walked through the whole process step by step if needed.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I was born to do this, it's 100% me and I appreciate every aspect of it.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Usually around the process and if they can trust my work. I'm always judged on my results and go above and beyond to overdeliver.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: None really my workflow is completely transparent and hundreds of people enjoy seeing my workflow live.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: During the initial chat I need to fully understand intention and vision for the client's work to enhance their sound. Understanding their main routes to market is critical too so I can make the correct decisions for their sound to be heard best whether it's live, streamed, or on a physical format.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: You can see what I'm about by chatting with me live during my Twitch streams 6 days a week
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: I'd probably ditch the music gear in exchange for a raft, food, a tent and stuff to survive haha
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been professionally DJ'ing since the early 2000's. Playing internationally alongside big name artists and networking with amazing producers first got me into Ableton in 2008.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Caring. Every piece of work I perform on gets as much, if not more, care and attention than my own pieces.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: INZO - I think INZO's ear for groove, melody, texture and overall composition is fantastic.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: I have many mixing and mastering tutorials available at https://www.twitch.tv/jakemattersofficial
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Mixing
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The hardest thing for artists to get right in a song is the sense of groove. I ensure that everything in the mix can be heard clearly and the groove is EMPHASISED not crushed or killed
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Engagement, online client meeting, obtain stems, mix and/ or master, send to client, debrief, perform revisions, finalise.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mixing and mastering
