Marc is absolutely brilliant. He recorded trumpet lines for a few of my classical pieces. The performance was fantastic. Nothing seemed unplayable for Marc (even really fast runs where I was expecting to have to simplify to make them playable). Sound quality was superb. Marc is also very helpful and friendly.

Interview with Marc Osterer

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I play lead trumpet in a studio orchestra, recording underscore music for series, movies, video games, etc. I often tour with electro-swing producer Parov Stelar, and play in local jazz clubs. I also have an ongoing YouTube channel, "Extreme Trumpet" in which I explain interesting facets of trumpet playing and post entertaining or funny trumpet videos.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Would you like a raw, flat track, or mixed, with EQ and effects? Should I play identical to the sample, give my own interpretation, or improvise something completely different? Would you like a mute, or any other special type of sound?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been playing trumpet since age 5, piano since 8, and many other instruments along the way. I studied jazz at one of the world's top conservatories, and have performed for audiences from living room concerts to Coachella, and everything in between.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Getting an audience interested in the inner workings of music theory, history, and performance.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've been a fan of ribbon microphones for as long as I've been recording. Paired with a good preamp, the trumpet sound comes out clean and honest. Then it's up to me and the music.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Improvised trumpet solos, horn lines, and replacing virtual instruments on tracks.
