I work from my home studio in the south of England full time for clients and my own aliases. The music under my company has accumulated over a billion streams (notably on platforms such as TikTok, Netease, and Tencent QQ). I have worked as a music producer for my own projects/aliases since 2012, and have been professionally producing for other artists and companies since 2016. I am a graduate from Newcastle University with a First Class Honours in Music, and am a practicing professional music producer, songwriter and composer

Interview with Monty Hancock

Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with FINNEAS, his works with Billie Eilish have pushed the sound of pop music into a chic electronic sound which is beautiful and confident.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Thinking of music like a 'jigsaw puzzle' - if the vibe isn't right of a certain sound then I will keep searching for the sound that serves the song the best, and build my way up like that.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a Scarlett Clarett 4Pre which goes into my monitors - for instrumentals I have been a professional pianist for most of my life so I use my Komplete Kontrols S88 MK2 for that. I also use my Ableton Push 2 primarily for jamming out, extending ideas, and everything inbetween. I have an analgoue synth and a bass guitar that I use for audio inputs.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Remixing, Full instrumental production, vocal tuning, timing, and processing, mixing, and mastering.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mix as you go.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic Music primarily. Then after that mostly Lofi Hip-Hop amd Lofi-House, Chill, Solo Piano, and experimental stuff!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: In the studio, bringing my ability on the keys is the most valuable thing I bring instrumentally to a song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fullness and a sheen, yet still having the sensation of being sonically warm.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am particularly inspired by musicians from all branches of production, from FINNEAS, to Burial, to potsu, to Au5.
