I worked with Phil recently and hes not only an amazing singer and artist but a great lyric writer too, who brings real soul and depth to a track. He's also nice to deal with. Would definitely work with him again.

I used Phil for a vocal track recently. Incredible work ethic, powerful voice and was very patient with what I needed.
    I would highly recommend him.

Interview with Phil King

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I use Pro Tools with a Universal Audio Apollo interface. My trusty Audio Technica 4033 mic. KRK Rokit Monitors.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now, I am writing some songs for my next solo album. I am also collaborating with a very brilliant friend, on a joint writing project ahead of a tour we are planning. I'm composing short instrumental pieces for a sound library I write for. I'm really enjoying playing piano, learning classical grade pieces, learning classic songs by the like of the Beatles, Carole King, Bill Withers etc, and beginning to improvise around blues/jazz progression. Its so much fun.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: A real piano, acoustic guitar, laptop, mic, cans, I'm ready to go! Gimme a coffee machine and I'll be in heaven.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: I recorded some tunes with Unforscene, released on their album Fingers and Thumbs on Tru Thoughts. I met up with the guys and listened to some beats they had been working on. Wrote a top line and recorded the lead vocal. I ended up going on tour with them, singing lead on the tunes I had co-written, and singing BV's for the amazing Alice Russel on her featured tunes. Good times.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: Gary Alesbrook. Bristol based trumpet player, amazing musician, and writer. I have worked with Gary a lot, and he is really great at what he does. Playing trumpet and flugelhorn, writing and arranging horn lines, soloing. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
