Joe Menzies

Producer/ Mix Engineer

Joe Menzies on SoundBetter

I am a London based producer and mix engineer. I graduated from Leeds College of Music with a 1st class degree and have 4 years experience working in professional studios. I have worked on a variety of different projects for artists around the UK. I am also a professional guitarist and bass player.

I have worked as a songwriter/producer for 4 years. I was managed by Nowhere Near (Plested, Mac & Phil), and I have experience working with many different artists. Most recently I have worked with emerging artist Tom Abisgold, who is managed by founder of Mcfly and Busted, Mathew Fletcher.

As a mix engineer, I have worked on projects ranging from singer songwriters and pop artists, to large bands and orchestras. My aim is to help you get the best possible sound out of your music. I always like to work closely with my clients as I feel it is important that the artist/ songwriter is very involved in the way their music is mixed, in order to bring their vision to life.

I do not shy away from any music. Rock, pop, classical, Drum N Bass. You send it and I’ll make it sound great!

If your interested in working with me, please drop me a message before buying so we can make sure you work is ready to go to the next level!

Interview with Joe Menzies

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: I like to sit down with my clients and discuss the initial idea of the project before getting into the mix. I like to know the exact styles and influences of the work. I find it important to work closely with my clients throughout the production in order to provide the best possible work for them.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: It is a dream of mine to work with Donald Glover. Ludwig Göranssan does an excellent job producing his work, but I would love to just be in the room and see the creative process that happens when working on a Gambino track.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Experiment with the genre of your song idea before diving into a set style. There have been many projects I have worked on that started in one style, but happened to sound even better when put into a different arrangement.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: I have most experience working on indie and alternative rock music, however I like to get involved in all styles. At the moment I am working on a lot of trap and RnB projects.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: I am a guitarist at heart, but I also pride myself on my arranging and mixing capability.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: At the moment I work mostly in my home studio, however I have access to studios in London. I regularly work at Ten87 In Tottenham Hale.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: A big inspiration of mine is Andrew Schepps. I met Andrew while being at college and had the privilege of showing him some of my work. He is a great mixing engineer and an excellent producer.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: As a graduate, I am at the moment seeking to do all sorts of work with my clients. I have just finished working on a project where I was involved in the recording, pre and post production, as well as the mixing and mastering.
