Interview with Youness Salmani
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m working on my upcoming Afro House tracks that’ll be released soon, really excited about how they’re coming together!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I prefer analog for the warmth and character it adds, but it can get pretty expensive.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Easy to work with throughout the process.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It’s my passion, and I just love producing music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: A lot of clients ask about copyright, I explain that rights and usage depend on the agreement we make upfront, so everything’s clear from the start. Another common question is about turnaround time. I usually say it depends on the project, but I aim to deliver within a week or two.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask about their vibe or style they want, any references or inspirations they have, and what their goals are for the track, like where they want to release it or how they want it to feel.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I’d say be clear about your vision and what you want to achieve. Communication is key, and don’t be afraid to trust the producer’s expertise to bring your ideas to life.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been in the game since 2011—started out DJing and organizing small parties, then got into music production. I signed with a few labels around 2016 but went independent after that. Just recently, in 2024, I rebranded my DJ name and dropped new music to mark a fresh start.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I’d say my style depends on what the client wants, but lately I’ve been focusing on Afro House. Before that, I used to produce big room tracks.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with KSHMR because his sound design is next level and I think we’d vibe well creatively.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: My go-to tip is: less is more. Keeping things simple often makes the track cleaner and more powerful.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on EDM and hip-hop, mixing, mastering, and producing full tracks in those styles.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is turning ideas into full, ready-to-release tracks that really connect with listeners.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clean, punchy mixes, catchy melodies, and a vibe that fits the artist’s vision, whether it’s energy for a club track or emotion for something more laid-back.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I usually start with a melody or chord progression, then build the beat around it. Once the arrangement’s done, I move on to sound design, mixing, and finally mastering to make sure everything hits right.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup’s pretty simple but solid—I use Yamaha HS7s for monitoring, an Alesis V49 MIDI controller, a Rode NT1-A mic, and an M-Track 2X2 audio interface.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I’m inspired by artists like KSHMR, Nicky Romero, Youssoupha, Kery James.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually handle mixing and mastering, but I also do full music production—composing melodies, chords, and building complete tracks, mainly in EDM and hip-hop.
