Rubén Cruz, known in the music industry as Malakkor de la Isla, is a leading music producer and mixing and mastering engineer based in the Canary Islands. With a career spanning more than 20 years, he has collaborated with prominent music figures and has left his mark on various projects around the world.
In his studio, renowned artists such as Quevedo, Maikel Delacalle, Eva Ruiz, Sara Socas, Don Patricio, Abhir, and many others have trusted him to record their voices.
Rubén has expanded his reach beyond the Canary Islands, participating in international projects of great relevance. His notable collaborations include creating music for the musical series "Dancing in the Shadow" in Germany, as well as productions for prominent artists such as Sirine Miled, Millaray "Aisha" Mandiola, and renowned rappers such as Nach, Zpu, Locus de DuoKie, Porta, Woyza, El Sicario, Capaz, C. Terrible, and even Merkules from Canada.
In his facet as a mixing and mastering engineer, Malakkor has demonstrated his talent by taking charge of the entire Saot St project "After Hour The Mixtape (Sony Music)", with the collaboration of the best Spanish artists of current urban music. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: J Balvin, Rosalia, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Beyonce, Burna Boy.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Urban Music production and mixing. Also music for spots.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Latin music, Afrobeats, Rnb, Hip hop & spots music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I adapt to many musical styles.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I make the idea that the client has in his head come true. I have a very clean sound and I leave the perfect space for the voice.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by talking to the artists about their musical tastes, I ask them to send me reference links to start creating the musical idea. (I deliver the ideas in less than 5 days). Once we have the idea, we start to improve it and work on adapting the lyrics. Once we have the final structure, we proceed to the recording of the voices. When I have the vocal tracks I start mixing and mastering. The whole process usually takes an average of 15 days to have the perfect song.
