It was great working with Mark on getting two tracks mastered. He is very knowledgeable and responsive, and he adjusted the initial masters based on some feedback I provided to realize the vision I had in mind for the songs.

I'm an independent singer/songwriter from Melbourne on a shoestring budget. I needed a track mastered quick but with an experienced set of ears and gear. Mark was that guy. Highly recommended.

Definitely go with Mark! He does a perfect job mastering and even goes above and beyond. There was some distortion in the introduction of my song and he checked with me to see if it was intentional and then even fixed it for me. I will definitely be back in the future!

Mark did a great job with my indie folk track. The initial master I received was too loud / squashed by the limiter for my tastes, but when I asked about it, he was happy to fix it up to my liking. Mark is very receptive to feedback and his turnaround is quick. Recommended.

I asked Mark to mix a vocal track for me. My recording was not of a great quality nor is my voice, but Mark managed to make me sound good. I basically asked him to turn a hamburger into a steak and he did it!

Interview with Mark Galup Mastering
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on a wide variety of genres from Americana to Indie Rock to Pop. I pride myself on my ability to get into the head space of each project we work on. Take a listen to our sound samples to hear examples of our diversity.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I bring out the individuality of the artists we work with. We take the time to fully understand the artist's vision and work very hard to ensure that it's realized.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I run full-range, state-of-the-art Strauss Elektroakustik MF-4 monitors with the SE PA-100 amp, along with dual Rythmik E15-HP2 subs. The majority of my chain is a suite of Custom Analog pieces made by the great Frank Lacy, with Lavry Gold ADC and numerous other options for conversion. Additionally, I have numerous other color pieces to fit the master at hand.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Bernie Grundman, Greg Calbi, Big Bass Brian Gardner, Mike Bozzi, Tom Coyne, Manny Marroquin, Tchad Blake, Dave Fridmann…
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Modern music production is about understanding the strengths of both analog and digital tools. It is not as black and white as people want to make it out to be. A successful engineer/mixer will know the correct tool for the job without being concerned with what medium it is.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Getting to listen to great music all day and having an integral role in the artist's dream coming true.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are your favorite records? What are you listening to right now? What kinds of sounds do you like?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure that you have heard and enjoyed other projects that the engineer/mixer has done. Don't simply make a decision by the names they have worked with, you should really like the work they do.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: 30 years combined experience, over 20,000 hours in the studio.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Many mixers have a very audible style that can be picked out by the discerning ear. We strive to be elusive and somewhat transparent in our style. Our goal is to mold our techniques to what's best for the song rather than molding the song to fit inside our techniques.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: We promise that you will be blown away with the work that we do and we will not stop working until you are.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: We specialize in mixing & mastering, as well as production and recording of all types of music. We focus on getting inside the head of each project, and enhancing the essence of the artistry, resulting in a completely unique sound.
