I'm Julie! I believe that the most important part of singing is telling a story. My classic sound was inspired by the folk singers of the 60s & 70s. This past month I was on tour in Europe with Sarah Darling, opening for Carly Pearce. My duo The Running Mates has over 150k subs on YouTube and upwards of 15 millions views. Let's make music!

Berklee College of Music grad living in Nashville :)

I've been singing as long as I can remember. The voices that influenced me as a young girl were Stevie Nicks, Karen Carpenter and Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries. As a vocalist, I strive to tell a story in every song I sing. My bread and butter genres are singer/songwriter, folk (& folk-rock), and country but I am well versed in pop, jazz and rock as well.

Please include the number of tracks you will need from me in your inquiry (example:1 lead vocal, 2 harmonies, 2 harmony doubles etc.)

Unfortunately, I do not provide samples of your song to see if I’m a good fit. Please refer to my reel and if you’d like to hear more you can find me on Spotify and YouTube.

I want you to be happy with the finished product and I try my very best to nail it first time around but if you need revisions the second take is always on the house, after that each additional take is $25.

I ask all my clients not to release, list or promote recordings under my name as an artist or featured artist. While I’m proud of all work I do, I prefer to separate the music I work on as a hired musician/singer (which varies greatly stylistically and conceptually from project to project) from music I write and release as an artist.

Let's make music!

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Working with Julie was an absolute pleasure. She is simply a divine person. Her voice is as serene as it is powerful and her artistry blew me away. The final product we put together far exceeded my expectations. She took my lyrics and brought them to life, elevating them in the process. I am beyond grateful to have worked with her and hope to again soon. Thanks Julie!

One cannot say enough nice things about Julie, and having her work on vocalizing my tracks. She's a super hard worker and has great consistency when completing the different projects, so many thanks.

    So now,
I'm determined to find something that's a real challenge for her to do. I think I found it!!! "Welcome To My Dojo" is the name of the next track. Good luck in advance Julie - hahaha

Julie knocked out two more songs for me. She did it quickly, and surprisingly there were no changes that needed to be made. It's pretty amazing work because one of the songs was 06:30 minutes in length with full backup vocals.

    Guess what J
That's right, two more songs are coming over for you to quote.

    Stunning work!!!
The gal has skills, she brought the song alive with her vocal tracks.
    Much thank Julie.

The tracks that she vocalized for me went through without a hitch. She nailed it the first time, without any reworks. Certainly a musician that you would want to partner up with - I immediately gave her another project to quote.

Interview with Julie Lavery

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I wrote a song called "The Answer" and recorded it with my husband from our home studio during the pandemic. It's about my relationship with religion and I think it's one of the best songs I've written. It got a little radio play in Nashville....maybe more in the future (fingers crossed!). It's on Spotify under Julie Lavery if you want to check it out.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Becoming a professional songwriter : )

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Spencer Broschard...he's an incredible guitarist...I'm a little biased because I married him but I wouldn't have married a bad guitar player I can promise you that!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I'm not much of a producer...I use digital and it's easier but I think analog sounds better.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to deliver my very best every time and if you need revisions we will make them until you're satisfied.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Everything. Singing for a living is a dream come true. Getting to work on so many different projects keeps everyday interesting.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Am I available to work on their project?...YES.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: People think that I don't have a soul...but gingers are people too : )

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What singing style are you looking for? How quickly do you need this project finished?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Just have the instrumental track, the temp vocal track and the lyrics ready to go!

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My guitar, my phone, my laptop, my Scarlett and my microphone!

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: I would like to think that my voice has a classic (and hopefully timeless) quality. I don't like to over sing or add a lot of flowery notes.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Don't forget the pop filter!

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Singing...la la la la la

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: I like to listen to the song and read along with the lyrics 4 or 5 times before I do anything else to familiarize myself with the story. The I start breaking it down and learning the melodies in sections.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: Fleetwood Mac, Joy Williams, The Cranberries, Bonnie Raitt, Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy and so many more!

  35. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
