I am a music producer and beat maker from Los Angeles. Credits include Universal Music Group | Def Jam Recordings. I am excited to use my expertise to craft your songs to the highest level possible! Let’s work!

WHO I AM:
I’m Jehf Slaps. I’ve been producing and beat making for 10+ years. My journey started while interning at Atlantic Records/Warner Music Group, working closely behind the scenes with various platinum music producers. That experience afforded me the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in music production. I have produced for various independent artists across the globe, and most recently, I produced a single for Universal | Def Jam’s latest signee, OHNO. My expertise is in Rap, Pop, RnB and Latin music, but I am open to work on ANY genre and vibe.

WHAT I DO:
I will take your vocal or any rough idea you have (even if it’s recorded on your phone) and turn it into a fully fleshed out production. I can work with an existing song that you have and make the production better. I am open to any ideas and references that you have in order to build a production that’s 100% to your taste. I am skilled in drum programming, sequencing, keyboard/synth performance, song arrangement, and vocal melody production.

WHAT YOU GET:

Jehf is a great producer. Jehf and I have met in person and talk a lot online as he is from LA and I am from the Bay Area. Overall great individual to work with. I have witnessed many tracks being produced and have collabed over skype/zoom. Jehf never fails to amaze me. He is a fast worker and at some point I have witnessed him make make at least 3 beats a day! Jehf is the man and you will not be disappointed with his work!

Jehf is amazing. From start to finish he is professional and he delivers. I've only ever worked with him over zoom (I'm in London and he's in LA) and it's been totally smooth. Do not hesitate to work with Jehf. I can't tell you how valueable a good producer like Jehf is! Super talented

Interview with Jehf Slaps

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I recently produced a single titled "Tu" for a Latin Hip-Hop artist named OHNO. I've worked with him for years and he recently signed to Def Jam Recordings. It felt great watching the song gather over 100K total plays in a few months, and has even been shared by one of my biggest influences growing up, Snoop Dogg. Excited to see his growth and honored to be apart of it.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently producing and writing songs for various clients, working on a sample library for other producers to license, as well as producing and writing songs for Def Jam's latest signee, OHNO.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I've worked with Josh Florez who is an amazing engineer/producer. I met him years ago at a studio called Chalice in Hollywood, and we have hired each other over the years and now we are both part of the SoundBetter community. He is a top-notch guy and a pro at mixing and recording vocals.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: 95% digital 5% analog. For the most part digital is so much faster and efficient today, but there is still something about old analog synths that give a character that can't be fully replicated.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Being able to create something that has never existed in this word beforehand. In a small way, every song that we release as artists/producers/songwriters is contributing to the overall culture of music, and people 40-50 years from now will be looking back at it the same way we look back at music from the 60's-70's. I think that is amazing!

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: One question I'm asked is how long will it take to finish the production. My answer is 1-2 weeks. I aim to have it done in less than a week typically, but I need to make sure everything sounding the best it can before I sent it back to the client, so it can take up to 2 weeks.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Most people think that technology has made it so anyone can be a producer or musician. While I agree there are more tools than there have ever been to streamline production, there is still no plugin or tool that can generate a great song idea. At it's core, production and songwriting will always be a human experience.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I typically ask my clients what their overall goal for their song or project is. It allows me to figure out what stage of their career they are in, and how I can help them grow and take it to the next level.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Don't hesitate to show off your work even if you aren't completely confident in your idea. Sometimes a great producer can take your idea that you are unsure of, and give it a whole new life.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: My laptop, external hard drive, MIDI keyboard, headphones, and a mouse.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I have been making music for over 10+ years. I started producing in my bedroom and went on to work with some of the biggest producers in LA. As an intern at Warner Music Group, I learned so much about the production process as well as the business end.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Current yet forward-thinking sounds, with an emphasis on punchy drums and great dynamics.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I would love to work with Ariana Grande, because she is so amazing vocally, that it would make my job as a producer so much easier.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Don't over produce. In other words, don't add stuff simply to add stuff. Let the song breathe.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I try to bring a polished modern and current sound that can compete with what's happening in the mainstream.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: Find the song! Everything revolves around that initial song idea. Once I find that, I produce around that. This includes finding chords progressions, drum sounds, vocal melodies, etc.

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: Beat making, full song production, vocal recording/production, drum programming, song arrangement.

  35. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  36. A: To deliver 110% in my productions!

  37. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  38. A: All kinds, but I really love Pop RnB and Trap/Rap stuff.

  39. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  40. A: Sound selection and drum programming.

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: Simple setup actually, a MacBook Pro (with a ton of plugins and soft synths), Preamp, Condenser mic and a MIDI keyboard.

  43. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  44. A: My favorite artists are Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Kanye West, Jon Bellion, Charlie Puth and Drake. The music they put out always pushes and inspires me to reach new heights with my productions.
