Interview with Trever Davis
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: King Turtle as the Bassist. I am so proud of my bandmates, we came from a small dingy bedroom and have since been invited to travel out of state for gigs, and have been invited to play Deep Ellum Art Festival 2021!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Oh, No. Electronic music EP King Turtle album
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both, the important thing is being able to utilize all tools at your disposal.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Quick results that hold up to professional standards
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The chance to work with sound, I am obsessed with sound and often refer to myself as a parrot for how often I repeat back noise. It has always been a dream to work as a Sound and Audio Engineer.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How long have you been producing? 5-6 years What DAW? Ableton and ProTools What are your rates? My rates vary and are discounted during COVID

A: We only make beats. Audio Engineers can add sonic depth to ANY project, musical or not.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What sound influences you? What are you trying to accomplish with this piece of work? What additional sounds, if any, are needed?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Many producers you may come into contact with are incredibly incompetent, and would not last long at a studio. My education has proved invaluable already for efficiency and quality.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Interface, MIDI controller/Synth, Bass, Guitar
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began playing music as a child, starting on piano 18 years ago. However, I have been releasing and writing music for 6 years under various groups and projects. King Turtle has been around for close to 3 years, Oh No for nearly 4.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Aggressive, Full, Complex
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Julian Casablancas because he is a visionary who often sees what others don't, and even more impressively, will pursue that instinct regardless of resistance from others.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: LEARN YOUR HOTKEYS! Nobody wants to watch a dude click and drag. It'll GREATLY increase your workflow and allow you to get your ideas into the DAW quickly. Not to mention, it'll amuse the clients too.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock/Metal Electronic
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ability to meld into a project or group in a way that brings depth to the sound.
