Anshul Karn on SoundBetter

I specialize in finger-style acoustic guitar having crossed a million streams for my acoustic instrumentals. You can refer my work on all major streaming platforms. My work has been featured in the following editorial playlists on Spotify- Calming acoustic, Sweater weather instrumentals, Fireside Acoustic, Cozy Acoustic Morning, mañana tranquila.

As an avid music enthusiast and a gear nerd, I have spent years practicing and mastering techniques that bring out the best from an acoustic guitar. Fingerstyle is my main area of expertise and I am comfortable with composing music. I wish my work creates a lasting impression to whoever listens to it.

Interview with Anshul Karn

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I plan to launch my own line of acoustic guitars someday, that's the dream.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: Martin OM 42, Martin vintage 5-18, Martin D 45, Martin 17 series Vintage, Pepe Romero Replica Ukulele

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: John Mayer, Andy McKee, Mateus Asato and Tommy Emmanuel

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Whatever helps me get the right sound. When I talk about guitar effects, digital has come a long way. There was a time when digital could replicate maybe 80% of the analog sound but none of the feel. Today, were 95% there in both sound and feel. Plus digital = Affordability = better availability and adoption across players of different economic backgrounds

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: A different perspective, having learnt backwards with instrument first and theory later, I'm wired towards exploring by default rather than working within a set construct. I bring a fresh and unique perspective, my sound samples will demonstrate the same.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: I take my time to ensure the best work is put out there, if required to compose I'm comfortable spending anywhere between a week to a month to get the perfect notes out there.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: My main guitar is an all mahogany Martin Dreadnaught. The wood makes up for its pristine clear notes, overtones and exceptional clarity. I also use a Martin dreadnaught - Sitka spruce topped guitar for clients looking for a heavy Low end sound. I mic all my guitars through an SM 57 running into a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface. I monitor my tracks through Yamaha HS8 studio monitors and Sennheiser HD650 Headphones.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: Acoustic guitar tracks, particularly fingerstyle related work.

  • My new acoustic instrumental song - "Hope" released in November 2021Nov 16, 2021

Hear the fingerstyle arrangement as I explore the fine balance between the higher strings providing a vocal like melody to the bass strings emphasising the notes in the lower register. The song aims to bring hope to people who are going through a tough phase in life, a constant reminder that the universe will work its magic to change things for you. Happy Listening :)
