Ciara on SoundBetter

I'm Ciara & I am a pro vocalist, song writer & instrumentalist from Northern England, home of the UK indie scene. I used to write & release music under my stage persona 'marblmoon' & have performed at festivals & in venues all over the UK & Ireland. I'm currently working through a 're-brand' and have new music on the way soon.

I would love to help you with your creative journey, be it a whole song or a middle 8 that you just can't quite grasp. My vocal range is from alto to mezzo soprano & I have a versatile voice that would suit all genres.
I also passionately work as the music co-ordinator for a beloved local youth group where I manage a choir & give music lessons to young people on a weekly basis.
I write around 10 songs a month using my own experiences or prompts I find & would love the opportunity to write from the perspective of someone else whist I'm working on more personal projects for the future.

If these prices don't suit your budget, I am open to discussion

I'm not too fussed over credits unless it is a project I really grow to love, in that case we would discuss professional collaboration.

Ciara has been an absolute pleasure to work with; very professional with quality results. What impressed me the most was the inspiring two way interaction, where Ciara would suggest and present ideas that I would never have thought of; just like a face-to-face studio session. I will definitely work with Ciara again.

Ciara nailed vocals and harmonies for my song in the first take.
Perfect timing, a minimum of noise, a nice accent and a very nice flow.
Such a pleasure to work with. Saves a lot of time for me.

Ciara is the most thorough songwriter I've ever worked with. All I did was give her an acapella chorus, and she came up not just with the structure of the song, she came up with vivid lyrics and imagery.

She also included a mood board with colors, pictures and some reference songs that reminded her of the mood of the song we were working on. Thank you so much Ciara!

Will definitely work with her the next time :)

Interview with Ciara

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: With no gigs currently, I am using this time to excel my production skills & expand songs I have written during the lockdown period into single releases & an EP.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I am here to provide you the best 'no strings attached' lyrics & vocals that will wriggle into your ears & stay there! I aim to match your artistic aesthetic & take your project to new heights.

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: As a womxn in music, there is a heavy misconception that we are essentially 'less' than male delivery. That is indeed not true & female musicians need to work 10x harder to disclaim this very damaging statement. When looking for a female singer song writer, take into account the voice & the skill, not just the look.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Talk to us first, we want to know your vibe. Don't be shy to explain any madness or emotional experiences, we need to be open & vulnerable in order to create an authentic song.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: My microphone, headphones & a laptop (for asmr calming purposes), my childhood guitar (for country style sad-girl singing under the stars), my ocarina (a Zelda moment)

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I have been performing for 14 years, but I didn't create marblmoon until 2017. I have also worked as a music co-ordinator for 2 years. I wouldn't say I had the most organic career path, but I'm here now & I'm happy. I couldn't see myself doing anything else this well.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I have been described in the past as 'Dad rock meets TikTok' which I found to be a huge compliment! As I said I am hugely inspired by the 70s but I am also a massive ex emo kid & don't mind a bit of a rave from time to time. I think it's very important for musicians to have a versatile aesthetic & not just cramming themselves into one box.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: Collaborate & let someone else listen to it, everyone processes sounds differently, don't keep it to yourself. I know it can feel like something you must protect, but give your baby to someone you trust, they'll take care of it, I promise.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: My main genre is dream-pop but my music has also been described as indie, soft-pop, alternative & folk rock.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: I was brought up in the folk scene, which means that I was harmonising with people from a young age. I can safely say that I can achieve an effective harmony on any song to give it an ethereal lift. I also have a trained singing voice that has never let me down. I find it very easy to structure a song & enjoy my work so much that time seems to stop when I get in my studio.

  21. Q: What's your typical work process?

  22. A: When writing songs from scratch, I tend to create a 'stream of consciousness' first. This is usually with an old fashioned pen & paper in a journal. I then pick a line or paragraph from that & build a song around it, using a pentameter or rhyming scheme I am comfortable with. Although song ideas can strike at any minute, so even when I'm out & about I tend to use the notes or voice app on my phone a lot to jot down words or phrases that pop into my head, even conversations from strangers walking past can be just the thing to spark inspiration. Once I have an idea of a structure, I then add chords with either a guitar or piano. I tend to write songs in short bursts so around 10mins to an hour. Once I am happy with the song I then move on to production & creating the all important aesthetic, I even sometimes use visual mood & colour boards to bring the song to life.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: Lyrics that are vague enough that you can apply your own life experiences to them are so important in song writing & I highly regard the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters, Celeste & Declan McKenna for achieving this. I am also hugely influenced by 70's power houses such as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt & Kate Bush. Jack Antonoff's production style is also an aesthetic I aim to match.
