Interview with Emmanuele Lordi
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I'm no magician. The audio clips that you are going to send me will determine the quality of the project itself. Mistakes are human, don't bother yourself seeking for perfection. Take your time, there's no hurry to enjoy music.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook Pro, UAD Apollo Twin, Avantone Mix Cubes, Yamaha NS10.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been doing this for five years straight. Initially I worked on my music to make it sound competitive, after I mastered some skills and learned from some professionals I took it to the next level and one year and a half ago I opened my own personal studio. I went to the Conservatory and I had lessons with professionals such as Tommy Bianchi, Gigi Barocco, Dj Telaviv, Icaro Tealdi and Salvatore Addeo.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with the Griselda roster because when I hear their songs I notice that my mind and ears could improve something.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with Hip-Hop/Rap, Trap music and Indie Pop.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Plenty of underground rap records and some indie pop albums.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Working is twice as fast compared to an analog processing and it’s more reliable and clean. And it’s cheaper. Best bang for buck.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: Your songs will not sound the same anymore!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Client’s satisfaction.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That our work is easy. Believe me, it isn’t.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Simple, effective and fast.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Listen to music, but not only from nowadays, dig in the past and keep an ear on all the music from the ‘60 and ‘70. The arrangements were at their top.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is fulfill every request that my clients make.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Warmth, clarity, presence and an absolute balance.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First of all, before all the plugins start to come out the cylinder, I do all the surgical cuttings in the vocal clips and the vocal/instrument riding to guarantee a great balance and a natural clarity.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is based only on ITB work. I do not mess with any type of analog gear because I like the speed and the reliability of technology.
