Interview with Joe Snelgrove
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I worked on a feature film called Zanka Contact. Im really proud of the drum sound because it tied all the other instruments together. Its also been nominated for "Best Soundtrack of the Year"
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Im currently preparing for a session with Lyra at the end of the month. Im also constantly working on drum sounds.

Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That computers are just as good as drummers.

A: What sound are you after? Who are your influences? What time frame are we looking at? Do you want multiple options?

A: Don’t t be afraid to send a message and start a conversation.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in rock bands to then go on to study music and get a Bachelor of Music. From there I moved to London and started touring Europe with many Pop & Rock bands. I have also been doing regular sessions and creations with artists over the past few years.

A: It comes from the heart, its passionate and exciting.

A: John Mayer - Because I love his music and the incredible musicianship.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Start with a raw drum sound, then add the effects.

Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring years of experience and a unique drum feel.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Firstly I listen, listen and then listen some more. Then I will talk to the artist and try to embody what sounds/vibe they want. Then I will select the drums and mic placement to get the sound thats needed for the song. Finally I will record a minimum of 3 takes to choose from. After I am happy with a take I will sent it to the artist. I will chat to the artist and see if anything needs to be improved to then do revisions. Once everyone is happy I will sent all the tracks over.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio set up is great, I'm very lucky to share it with another drummer so we cover all bases when it comes to drum sounds. I have included a list of my gear on my profile page if you want to check it out.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My drumming biggest inspirations are Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan & Taylor Hawkins. I am also inspired by many songwriters producers and art in general.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common work I have is with musicians and producers. I work closely with them getting the drum sounds they want.
