Interview with Róisin Marie
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I got to work with Jeremy Lloyd of Marian Hill on his personal project, clear eyes. I am on his album titled "dreaming of flying." This was a really exciting opportunity for me. Jeremy actually heard a few demos of mine, and fell in love with one called "uptome." He reached out to set up a session, and we hit it off. He then asked if I would be down for him to take a stab at building it into the track it is today. "uptome" was entirely written by me about a love that I wish I could've held onto forever.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I am currently working on my first body of work as an artist :) I make indie folk pop lol
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Theia !
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I get to do what I love.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began working as a session songwriter when I was 19. I am now about to turn 24, so it has been around five years for me. I have worked as a songwriter in Los Angeles and New York.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would say that one thing that sets my style apart, is how I like to focus on the way it feels and sounds to sing certain vowels or words. I focus on this a lot when top lining any k-pop or electro pop. I think the cadence really sets the overall tone of the song.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on a range of music from K-Pop to alternative R&B to Indie/Folk.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'd say my strongest skill is my melodic instinct.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: My very best.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, I will read over any pitches and listen thru production that is sent to me. I will then get any first instinct melodies down, and start building out the structure and lyrics before doing vocals and production.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I record on an sm7b into a presonus blue tube preamp. I use the focusrite scarlett interface, and work out of ableton.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I generally top line production for k-pop, electro-pop, or indie pop.
