Production/Songwriting/Mixing

Adam James on SoundBetter

Hey! I am a singer/songwriter/producer based in London. I have over 10 years of music production experience mainly working in Logic Pro X and have over 600k streams across Spotify with my own music. I have had songs places on Made in Chelsea, Hollyoaks, BT Sport, Netflix Terrace House and more.

I can take your demo or rough voice recording and turn it into a professional radio ready song. It doesn't matter of the quality of your demo, as long as I can hear the structure and chords and you give me a reference of what you want it to sound like, I will produce it to a high quality standard!

Genres include:

Pop
Rock
Punk
Indie
Hip Hop
RnB

I can offer:

A full song with complete high quality production, instrumental version, stems and additional composition to help you finish the song and get it to where it needs to be (if required). I am also a singer so can provide vocals if you need. Any questions please contact me and we can discuss your project and goals!

I use Logic X Pro with plug ins such as Waves, and instruments such as Massive, Serum, Output.

Please contact me if you have any questions, and let's make a hit!

Best,
Adam

Interview with Adam James

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Analog AND digital, because digital is so much more creatively accessible and quick which is SO important for me to be able to get my ideas down as quickly as possible. But analog just has that timeless rich warmth to it which we are now trying to recreate with plugins. I generally always add a vinyl sound to my mix at a low level to give it a hint of 'analog' warmth.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: Laptop, interface, electric guitar, headphones and Shure SM7

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I am working on my own music at present for my band CALM, and we are planning to release this later in the year.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise that I will put 110% into every project I work on, and will not give up until you are more than satisfied.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love how every project, every song is something totally new and creatively exciting.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: It is easy.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: What is the intention for the project, what are the expectations.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Please ask as many questions as you like, let's understand what your expectations are and what I am able to offer you. I will take as much time as you need to understand your vision and execute it to the highest quality possible which you are thrilled with.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I have been producing music for over 10 years, started in my bedroom on a Tascam DP-02 digital mixer and falling in love with the process. I then graduated to Logic Pro X and have been constantly working on mastering it ever since. I sing and write songs in a band which I am also pursuing.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Alternative Pop.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: I would like to work with Tame Impala as he has the ability to write excellent pop songs with a retro/vintage feel.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Less is more, find the best source sounds and do not flood the mix.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I typically work on pop/alternative pop/indie and rock.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: My strongest skill is my songwriting and ability to bring this into my production work, I have a very high standard and strive to exceed my client's expectations.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I will take the song to the next level by going through each sound layer by layer and making sure that each sound adds value and if it doesn't, I will either remove it or find a way for it to fit better so that the track sounds clear and has enough frequency space to sound as big and as polished as possible. I can always bring additional composition and arrangement tweaks to make sure the song is dynamic and keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: If I am producing a track from the ground up with only a demo for reference, I will first start by making sure the vocals are crystal clear and perfect for the vibe of the song. I will then work on the drums, replacing sounds and finding the best source sounds possible. Once these elements are nailed I will work on the bass and the drums, making sure they lock in perfectly and the pocket is correct. I will then move on to synths and guitars, followed by any other parts and make sure that the track is arranged in a way that keeps the listener engaged chapter by chapter.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I operate using Logic Pro X on a Macbook Pro with 16gb Ram, i7 processor. I use mainly Waves plugins and Massive/Serum/Kontakt.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: I am inspired by sonically big sounding pop tracks from the modern day such as The Weeknd, Twenty One Pilots, Tame Impala, to 80s bands such as Tears For Fears, The Human League, The Prodigy, New Order.

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: My most common service is production and songwriting. I will take a clients rough demo, and rebuild the track offering arrangement tweaks and additional composition to get the track to where it needs to be and sounding like a radio ready production.
