Interview with Rachel Escalera
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I wrote "Flip it" for the movie "Flip the Script." It was the first song I had ever placed and it gave me the confirmation that this is what I needed to dedicate my life to.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My soon to be released album. So excited to finally put this out!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will get professional high quality vocals from me.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything! My favorite is recording the vocals and harmonizing.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't hesitate, life is short, let's make your vision come to life. I'm 100% committed. This is my passion and I love every aspect of it.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My lap top, mic, interface, headphones, and mic stand
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been singing professionally for over 15 years. I have been signed to Universal (when I was in a girl group with my sisters). I have traveled all around the world doing background vocals for an array of artist. And have worked with many different producers. I feel so blessed for all of the opportunities that have come my way.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Conscious lyrics with some type of empowering message. Powerful but angelic vocals.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Alex Isley. I just discovered her and I love her whole vibe... would love to collaborate one day.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't overthink it.. if it flows and it feels good go with it. Sometimes going out for a walk in nature makes lyrics come to me faster.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, R&B soul, and Latin are my specialty.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Melodies, backgrounds, and harmonies. I started my career in a girl group with my sisters (we sung harmonies all of the time) and I was in Brenda Lee Eager's ensemble, and I've sung background with other singers.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Life and emotion.. I "color" the song with beautiful backgrounds and harmonies.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I listen to the track once and then immediately record any melodies that naturally come to me... Which ever melody stands out is the what I choose to write lyrics to.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a small in home studio.
