Interview with Andreas Campobasso

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: I try to go in the personality of the artist or the feeling/flow of the song.. therefore i ask questions to understand the subtil information that i need to translate the „thing“ that makes that song special.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: 22+ Years. In my own studio and in many others. I learned engineering in 1998 - 2002.. since that day I’m in. I play acustic- an electricguitar. Piano and bass. I´m a singer and an Bluesharber too. Engineer longer then I can think and I love it like the first day. All starts as an assistant .. , in a big Studio... a long time ago...

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Finneas and Billie.. because they are so united and pure inspiration. They do a lot for the youth of today. I adore Sia, because she have a unique voice and brings a bit of the 80ies back. Like The Weekend.. Daft Punk... hmm so good.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: To analyse the feeling from the song that i will work on. I do my work in that perspective, to bring that feeling forward. Most of the time i let my brain off and go with the flow. In the end i think.. only in this way its posible to make a mix emotional correct.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Better a good song, with great mixing and mastering, then a bad song with bad mixing and mastering. And.. Less is more, almost. Let the song breath. “Silence” is sometime the power in the music.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: THE Harddrive, my 855 Taylor 12 String Guitar, macbook, a Internet device and a big solar panel for electricity.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Its depend on the style of the artist... but i like an exiting sound.. some that helps to stand out of the mass.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: The result will also depend on the given material. But we are able to get the most out of it.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I try to get into the flow of the song and let my brain most of the time off and let the things go. Its all depend of the song and the artist. I think there are no “typical process”, every song is so different and needs a unique approach. That’s make my job so lovley.

  19. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  20. A: I´m the producer, mix and master engineer from the new upcoming Artist named Roxxania. I’m her biggest fan and its so inspiring to work with her and others new young artist.

  21. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  22. A: Here in my new studio en Germany, we do a bunch of Drill, Hip Hop, Rap in a project. But for my artist I’m in the alternativ and electro Pop scene and a lot of Latin Pop. EDM too.

  23. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  24. A: I like both. The digital world sounds more and more „analog...ish“ and the analog world still rocks soundwise. The best of both worlds..

  25. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  26. A: I never give up and when they are not satisfied, i´d do to make it better. It will sounds.. better ;)

  27. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  28. A: It doesn't feel like work. I am in a position to do what I love. Every single day.

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: In 22 Years experiences I learned to put myself in a short time in the wishes of my clients. I do every time a little more. Good taste. Sometimes I like “clean” distortion if necessary.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: Hybrid. I try everything and go with the best.

  33. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  34. A: uff... i do it all in my career and i enjoy it to mix today an EDM song and tomorrow a blues or R&B. Thats is because i love music generally .. if its good. People told me, that I’m so fu....g versatile and and so flexible and young in my doing. ..sound nice to me...

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Clarity, Presence, Punch, warmth, depth, maybe 3D, definition and if You need – a product with the perfect loudness.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
