Interview with Moosa Saleem
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about me is that I work on just electronic music.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When are they planning to release the track and which labels do they have in mind for releasing. It helps me to listen to the recent tracks from that label and get the idea what they are really into vocal-wise.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be clear and detailed in the instructions before I begin working on the track.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, microphone, mobile phone, lots of acoustic foam.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I wanted to be a filmmaker. I have been making music from past seven years now.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Laidback, fiery, airy.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Alok, Martin Garrix and Tiesto. I just love the kind of sounds they are coming up with.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Listen to different genres to get inspiration. Take your favorite elements from different genres and blend and mold them into something completely your own.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Electronic, indie and folk.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My songwriting skills are always appreciated by the producers I work with.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: The perfect emotion the track demands.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I write the lyrics first and then start working on the vocal melody. When the recording begins, I usually make changes to a few words so that all the words sit well with the instrumental.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Rode Studio Kit with AI-1 Audio Interface, NT1 Microphone and SMR Shockmount
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Artists like Martin Garrix, Goodboys, Elderbrook
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I sing, write lyrics and vocal melody for them.
