Alexey Kochetkov on SoundBetter

Classical and folk violin. String section recordings. Genres: pop, rock, folk, cinematic, electronic and more. Styles: country, Irish, Middle Eastern, Balkan, klezmer. Fast turnaround. High quality. Your project is my priority. Let’s create together!

I have been working as a professional violinist for over 20 years, performing with ensembles and bands that played pop, rock, jazz, various folk traditions, and of course classical music. I improvise, read scores, work with MIDI files, and write string arrangements. With three different violins, I can always find the perfect tone and record authentic sounding strings.

All recordings are done in my acoustically treated studio, equipped with high-quality gear to deliver excellent sound. Every project is a buyout: you pay a one-time fee and own 100% of the rights to the music.

I look forward to creating something special together!

Alexey is an outstanding musician! Great communication, fast delivery, and really organised stems and recordings, fully aligned with my instrumental. He was also very helpful in giving me insights on the right techniques and melodic choices for the track, and providing a great idea of his own.

Interview with Alexey Kochetkov

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: 1. I carefully listen to the track to understand its character, mood, and musical structure. 2. Then I develop and rehearse the violin parts, often playing along with the recording or making trial takes to refine ideas, especially for improvised sections. 3. Now it's time to make the actual recording! 4. I revise the takes, correct imperfections, and finalize the project. 5. Exporting, naming and organizing the violin tracks before sending them to the you!

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: Jacob Collier - for groundbreaking creativity and a sky-high performance level Hans Zimmer - for redefining the sound of cinematic music Kronos Quartet - for reinventing the definition of a string quartet Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra - for delivering the most contemporary-sounding classical music performances Queen - for making me fall in love with music when I was a teenager

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I work with three different violins: a classical four string violin, a five-string violin tthat extends into the viola range, and an octave violin that reaches down into the cello register. All recordings are made in an acoustically treated professional studio room, using the following setup: DPA microphone for close miking RODE NT1 for capturing room ambience Direct Input (DI) for the octave violin, and occasionally the five-string violin MOTU UltraLite MK4 as the recording interface

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: Most often I'm asked to record melodic lines and improvised solos across a wide range of folk music traditions: Irish, American country folk, Eastern European klezmer, Romani, Balkan, and various Middle Eastern styles. Another common request is recording string sections for songs or cinematic projects. Using three different violins, I can create an authentic, expressive string orchestra sound by multi layering my own performance. And finally, I’m sometimes asked to create experimental electric violin solos for electronic music tracks like techno, dubstep etc..
