Hi, I'm James; songwriter, guitarist and vocalist for The Vaulted Skies since 2013 (and its previous incarnations since 2001).

I've been approached for vocal session work increasingly over the past couple of years. I found in many cases that the reason things probably hadn't worked out with other vocalists they'd tried, was that the lyrics, the outline vocal arrangements and phrasing - and in some cases the overall song structure - were making it hard for the singer to connect with the song, and portray the intended emotional truth to the listener.

It felt like a big risk at the time, but instead of just "taking the money" for the vocal work, I decided to share my views on how the words could be changed and delivered to make the song land better. In some cases this also meant restructuring (adding, removing or moving bars around) and/or adding additional layers of instrumentation to better support the story of the song. Clients and collaborators are delighted with the results, and I'll soon be able to share some of the finished projects.
