Interview with Mega Mick
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: About 2/3 years ago I got the opportunity to produce a song for Serani called 'New Carnival'. It was special to me because growing up he was such a big deal with massive songs like 'No Games' and to actually have him in my studio creating together was a very surreal moment.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently in finishing stages on an album with a signed artist.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. There is something about analog i love so much, the warmth and the fact that i can actually touch it physically. However there are somethings i just can't live without digitally.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to never leave you unsatisfied and i vow to push through until everyone is completely in love with what we've created together.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love creating. There is something so magical about literally pulling a song from the universe and bring to life thought & pure emotion into something.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Are you gonna send me a bounce soon? I usually send a bounce right after every session.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I'm not open, when it's the total opposite.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What are you listening to right now? What do you want your sound to be? what picture do you want to pain for your fans to see? how are you lately? What's been going on in your life?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just be straight forward with me and everything will go over smooth. Meaning, if you know what you want, don't know what you want or just have a faint idea just be straight up from the jump to avoid any misunderstandings.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, guitar, headphones, keyboard & microphone
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been producing music for 8 years and I intent to make records for a living with artists and songwriters from all over the world.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I am a fusion of oldschool funk, disco and new school Pop with feel good elements of the caribbean dancehall and soca grooves with a sprinkle of latin influence.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I will like to work with Justin Bieber because I believe that the sound and general vibe that I will bring to the table will mesh so well with his and only pure magic can come from a link like that.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never overthink it and always go with the feeling. If it makes you Feel good you are on the right path.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, Funk, Disco, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Hip Hop/Trap
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Being able to capture the vision of the artist and get the session going.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a fresh energy and perspective filled by my experience with working with different personalities and on different styles of music. I have a talent for landing on a vibe or getting it off the ground relatively quickly and tend to push writers and artists to bring out the best of themselves.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I am an early riser usually, so when i have work to do that consists of me alone in the studio I tend to get the day started early which leads into knocking off everything on my to do list that day. I wake up, mediate, have breakfast and then I'm in the studio for the day.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a full studio set up which consists of a small live room & a control room. I have tons of instruments as well.
